It's a 96 Legacy L. The black side moldings aren't black anymore due to age and UV. Does anybody know how to revive them permantly back to black? On a side note, what do you think of just having them body color painted like the Legacy GTs. Due to their "ding me with your door" location, I'm concerned about painting the black plastic side moldings.

If you're wanting to make them black again, and don't feel like painting them (they're a PITA to get off) you can use a heat gun to "refresh" them. Here's a Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbyjFt2QSRo

I think the body matched strips look better on some cars, but not all. It just depends on the color and over all "look" of the car.

I personally have heard great things about the black wow restorer. I am going to be giving that a try in the next week or two.

I'm not sure about the rest, but back to black is far from a permanent solution. I've used it many times before and although it works great, it's short lived and will need to be re-applied often.

Mothers Back to Black is useless. It's temporary at best. I'd pour my bottle down the drain if it wasn't harmful to the environment.
I'll ship the bottle to someone if they want to pay postage...

I'm going to be painting my door strips black - they're body colored now and dinged to heck.

I used Duplicolor on my side moldings and it came out great. Just take your time. I even clear coated mine.

After Google-ing many other products and the heat gun technique, I made a choice. I applied Forever Black to my once black-turned various shades of grey exterior trim. The trim on my 96 Legacy now looks brand new. There is no greasy residue. Dries in about 10 minutes. Took 3 coats to revive it. Interesting product, after applying, it seemed to absorb into the plastic. (sounds impossible?-try to immediatly wipe it off) I had to be careful applying since this is not a dressing but a dye. It must be applied evenly and in several coats. Do not use the applicator that comes with it. The dye is watery and will flow everywhere making a mess. I instead applied it to a Kiwi shoe polishing cloth, then to the parts. It was very easy to control that way. Lacquer thinner removes any mistakes. The results were impressive. I recommend this product highly.

Got before and after pics?

Why yes, I did take before and after pics. I've tried and have never been able to post photos on this site. Don't know why? I've even tried mini thumbnail sizes and..... gave up.

Use Photobucket to host your pics.

I've never been able to attach photos! :smt013 They have been resized according to the limit. (They're actually a little smaller than the size limit, low 200KB.jpg files) I keep getting the message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached." Don't say I didn't try. You'll just have to take my word on the results of Forever Black.
PS. What is the special trick to the photos? I can post them on other sites with no problem.
Here's the only way I can do it.http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/reviving-black-exterior-trim-166864.html?p=3537961
