I originally posted this on http://forums.jdmvip.com/ and checked with Reason to see if I could add it here - I hope this works for some/all NADM Leggy's too.. but I don't know. I would think you need keyless entry, and auto/central locking at minimum.

Very handy if you accidentally lock your keys in the car etc. I'm not 100% if the instructions work for every leggy the same. I tried on a 94 (my old one) today, and got no long beep initially. Inokyio tells me that the instructions he had did not use the remote key, but rather you'd have the key in the ignition.

I'd like some feedback from the NADM legacies on here, as to whether this works for you or not.

Anyways, on with the instructions, it should be noted that they worked fine with my 1996 GT-B (june build, and different than pre-june 96 GT SpecB)

1. Unlock all your doors
2. Hold up on the drivers' side for 6 seconds, you should hear the same beep that your car often makes, but this time, it won't give up.
3. Point your remote lock key at the receptor (by the maplights) and press the unlock button - you will hear the beep stop - this means you are in record mode.
4. it's a 4 digit code, so choose one. Can't be something simple, like 1111, 2222, 0000, 1234 etc - they've disabled this. Let's use a code of 5-4-8-0 for instructional purposes
5. pull up 5 times, wait for beep
6. pull up 4 times, wait for beep
7. pull up 8 times, wait for beep
8. pull up 10 times (for "0"), wait for beep
9. long beep, and repeat step 5 through 8 within 30 seconds.
10. Car will lock, and unlock to let you know it worked.

Lock your doors, and do step 5 through 8, and be amazed! :cool:

There are further instructions, if you've screwed up, I believe you do these steps with the key in the ignition. See the instructions in english, if you want to be confused! :D

Here is some further info that may help pre-96 models
Some more info from Inokyio (he's not talking to you right now VIP!)

The below instructions to program the unlock thingy is off a 1994 Legacy owners manual, but it was exactly the same for my 1996/Feb. GTV. It worked for all of my Legacy's, newest one being the 1996/Feb. model.

Getting ready to enter a new PIN;
1. Open driver side door (unlocked position).
2. Turn the ignition key to the "on" position.
3. Lift the outside handle (approx. 5 seconds) until you here the beeper. When you here the beeper, lower the handle and you are ready to enter in your new PIN. You must enter your new PIN within 5 seconds after the beeper sounds. (Enter in the new PIN while the door is open).

Entering in a new PIN;
1. As per diagram (the one in your photobucket instructions, at the bottom), lift the handle (for instance, lift the handle three times for "3", then pause. When you hear a beep, that number is recorded and enter in the next number). Do this for each of the four digits.
2. When you here a long beep, your four digit PIN is entered once. Repeat the same procedure again and re-enter your four digit PIN. (You must do this within 30 seconds).
3. When you hear a long beep (about 1 second), you have finished entering in your new PIN.

Notes about entering in your new PIN;
1. If you do something incorrectly, turn ignition switch to the "off" position and start over.
2. To avoid theft, you cannot enter a PIN such as 0000, 1111, 2222~9999, 1234. Please also refrain from entering in the chassis number, or simple numbers such as 1112, 1112.
3. When entering in "0", pull the handle 10 times.
4. When you enter in "2222", your PIN will be deleted and until you enter in a new PIN, the doors will not unlock with the system.
5. When you have entered in a new PIN, please confirm it is valid by testing it out.
6. When you remove the battery, you may need to enter the PIN again. Please confirm if your PIN works, and if not, re-enter.

When using the "unlock thingy, lol" feature;
1. Simple lift the outside handle as per your PIN to unlock the doors.
2. If you make a mistake, wait 5 seconds and re-enter.
3. if you enter in your PIN for 5 consecutive times, wait 5 MINUTES to re-enter your PIN. This is to avoid theft.

There is absolutely nothing about pointing the infra-red key...

Hope this helps and if it does, feel free to post/show the Engurish world how to do this! ;-)
If not, let me know!

So, from the looks of it, the way this function works changes in 1996/june.
Certainly, I had to use the IR key to shut a beep off, and didn't have the key in the ignition. In the pre-june 96 instructions, you've got to have a key in and a certain position selected to do this.

Interesting, and great contribution Ken!

report back with model and age, working or no! I use this all the time now. I'll even lock my keys in the hidey holes in the trunk if I'm hitting a festival or something. It's so awesome! And, you can change your pin at anytime!

Wow, that's way cool. Too bad the 95 model year didn't have keyless entry at all...

I am going to assume that it doesnt work on my 99. I just installed the factory alarm option and it is the remote that looks like this:

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/08/2612363_132-1.jpg

No key with an operation button and no sensor/antenna in the map light to install.

Also, my car doesnt been with the alarm it honks its horns to confirm lock/unlock.
