I'm going to give an overarching background on the situation...

I purchased a '99 Legacy Outback LTD 5mt with a bad transmission. I had no idea what was wrong with the transmission, the previous owner just said that his mechanic said the transmission needed to be replaced. When it drove, it made a horrible grinding noise that would come and go, and the car would decelerate hard if you let off the gas. So, I assumed it was the center differential.

Between yesterday and today my friend and I have been trying to put a '98 2.5RS transmission into my '99 Legacy. When we took down the '99 transmission we found that the clutch fork has cracked (and I still think the center diff is bad).

So to the point- we finally got everything together today, and bolted it on and tested it out - the clutch pedal just falls to the floor. The clutch fork is extremely loose and we can't see anything else that could be wrong... We are stumped.

We used the following:
'98 2.5RS transmission (TY752V2DAA)
Clutch fork from '98 2.5RS trans
NEW Exedy KSB04 clutch kit
NEW OEM Subaru flywheel for EJ25D/whatever

Now, yesterday I drove it 50 miles to my friends place, on the way there it drove fine sans the issues stated. When I turned into my friends development, I pushed the clutch in, downshifted and the clutch pedal stuck to the floor.

Halp?

Sounds like you need to bleed the clutch, and make sure you do it right, there are 2 points to bleed from for some dumb reason

So is the scenario this: clutch fork cracks, causing no pressure in clutch system, causing clutch pedal to fall to floor, requiring us to bleed the system?

I'm not sure what happened in your case, but I know every time I've swapped a hydro tranny, I've ended up with the pedal stuck to the floor until it's all bled properly.

What about the clutch fork issue? The clutch fork is extremely loose, there is no tension on it at all.

Maybe the spring that holds the fork to the trans (via ball pivot) is worn or just popped out? Here's a pic in a thread on rs25, also a good way to beef up a stock one.

Pin was put on...it may just wind up being the slave cylinder. Hopefully will find out tonight.
