The owner's manual doesn't tell me the maintenance schedule, so I'll ask here:

How often should I change plug wires? I've had my current set on for about 58,000 miles and I'm about to change spark plugs.

Also - recommendations that aren't Magnecore (expensive). I've heard the NGK ones are good to go with, but I can't find them all that cheap. Amazon for 38 bucks was about as low as it got...

Just change the year next to the PDF file for you corresponding year if u want.

Subaru uses NGK OEM wires when they left the factory. Magnacores wont give you much benefit since your not running a super hot spark.

Factory wires (at least for my 98) are branded as "Yakazi" and are red in color. NGKs are blue.

I typically change out the plug wires at 100k intervals, unless they break down earlier. Most original equipment wires will last well over 100k, and a lot of (cheap) aftermarket wires won't make it to half that. My car still had the original wires when I got it with 150k on it, and there was nothing wrong with them. I replaced them for maintenance.

My current ones are Bosch OEMs that were put on at the 160k service interval. I'm not having any misfire issues, so I guess I could just do the plugs and call it good. After all, it doesn't really take any extra effort to put new plug wires on anyways...
