Well it seems as though my gas filler neck bypass hose is fully or partially blocked.

It has to be something large because my car didnt do this the last time I filled up. Now, It will click damn near every 2-6 seconds.

I get to try to fix it and get my car back to normal before BAM.

Yay!

Its the 'vent control solenoid' under the 'bread box' behind the rear passenger tire. Has happened on both my 99 LGT's. Seems to be really common with these cars.

Haha... yea I figured.

Just for the hell of it I took the screws out of the plates that hold the filler neck into the body... Basically because I never have and I wanted to take a look.

Wow... Big mistake. It took me about 20 minutes just to get the gas door release button back into the plastic filler neck surround.

There isnt much room to work with and it is essentially a cable... so not much give either.

I will put the car up on stands today or tomorrow and get at the cover in the wheel well area.

You don't even need to put the car up on stands to work on it really. Its right behind the rear passenger side wheel. The big plastic thing that looks like a bread loaf / bread box. You remove it, then the vent control solenoid is above it. You will probably need to buy a new one. Usually they rust, and the rust flakes prevent the solenoid from working correctly.

Might want to check this link as well.. not exactly what I mentioned, but has some other ideas, and also a subaru diagnostic page from a manual or something on testing what it could be:

http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin ... pump-4002/ (http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f88/car-not-filling-gas-pump-4002/)

I have found with both of my BD's however, it was the vent solenoid that went bad.

Everyone should remove that "breadbox" anyway. It's know to fill up with dirt/mud and rust through the filler neck. I pulled mine out a few days ago and this is what came out:
