Is this common in older Legacies?

I want to get my car repainted, install outback front bumper cover (already have it) and GT/OB Scooped hood but I don't how to approach this. I have no auto body experience. How should I go about fixing this? Any pointers for this first timer?

Also, I went and purchased parts from a fella off CL who happened to be selling an 02 OB LL Bean Edition Wagon with a rust hole in the same exact spot. Could it be that the rear side window is leaking? I haven't driven this car in over a year due to another water leak in the interior (moonroof, water puddles behind the front passenger seat). I finally found my replacement carpeting, now I have to tear into the car.

Once the cosmetics are done, I will plan for some kind of engine swap (2.5/2.2 hybrid, EZ30, or 2.0 WRX). I have the funds to do this, but I want this car to look decent before I throw serious money under the hood.

I've never seen that before. It must be something out East.

That's a nasty place to have rust, too. Unless you have the ability to fabricate sheet metal, I would take it to a pro, or someone that knows more about major rust repair.

yeah this part of Pa is notorious for over salting of the roads (we get bad ice storms)

A collision shop will charge you the C Pillar. Then repair time, paint, and clear coat (you'd think that would be included). I would just get some sheet metal, get rid of the rust spot, cut out a piece to fit the highlighted area. Then a couple welds and paint, and she'll look like nothing happened.

Agreed. Know anyone that can weld for you? Hell if you can wait til fall bring it down to my house and I will take car of it for you. I have a wire feed welder, but we are going to have to grind it smooth anyways.

I have noticed some rusty water coming out of a weld joint in the same place on my BH - pain in the ass.

That's super common up here, I see it on a daily basis. What I've done in the past is exactly what others have said, I find a wrecked rust free car, cut out the old, then weld in the new. I think it happens mostly because water/salt get's caught in that seem that's right there. The door seal also holds in moister.
