View Full Version : No fuel pressure, won't start. Need assistance

Hey,

I just got back from this:

I took a downhill-ish, left hand, 90 degree corner at about 35mph. Upon completing the turn, the car immediately bogged, wouldn't respond to throttle, and ultimately died, coasting to a stop. Tried to restart it, but the idle sits between 200-400rpm, it won't respond to throttle, and again just dies.

I checked the IAC, and the TPS looks fine. My only guess is that the fuel pump got knocked around (somehow....?) and that it is somehow not getting any fuel. Weird, because a) it worked fine for the 30 minute ride previously; and b) it has a Walbro 255, with a surge tank mod. Fuel supply should be the LAST problem I should be having.

Please help.

Checked the tension on the throttle cable?

Tension is good on the cables.

Also, no sound of the pump priming when the key is first turned.

Edit: also, no codes.

Pulled the fuel pump, checked connections, heat shrunk them back together, still no fuel pressure after reinstalling.

Please shoot me some more ideas.

Low airflow? Bad MAF?

Air flow seems fine, I think its really the no fuel thing that's breaking my balls here. I just don't get how a fuel pump (or at least fuel pressure) could just fail, post corner.

No pressure masured at the fuel filter. Car won't start at all.

Pull the fuel pump out and bench test it. Hook it up directly to a battery. That will tell you if the pump or wiring is at fault.

Fuel pump tested as good.

Fuses SB1 & SB2 both look good as well.

Ok now you need to test the relay. See if you can find another relay that is the same and switch them. If there is no change you need to find out where there is a break in the circuit.
I don't know how extensive you knowledge of wiring is or if you have access to the proper tools but if you feel that you can do it I will download a FSM and see if I can walk you through the checks.

I'm going to bypass the relay just to check, in lieu of finding a replacement. Where is it located?

Redid the connections on the pump, and reinstalled. For sh*ts and giggles I turned the key and the pump came whirring to life. Car started right up and ran without a hitch. I guess that means my hypothesis was correct, but I'll be damned as to why it didn't work the first time.

Thanks everybody.
