I just bought a 92 AWD legacy wagon. It has 160,000 miles, it’s an automatic, and seems to be very well maintained. The muffler needs replaced, any suggestions? I'm ok with stock, but if there is a better option for performance/mileage I would go that route. I don't want something obnoxious but a little deeper exhaust note would be fine.

Thanks

You can do whatever you want - with a good exhaust shop. If you can find a local WRX or STi owner who has their stock exhaust for sale, snag that for cheap and have the exhaust shop fit it with a new midpipe. Shouldn't cost you more than $200 to get a little nicer of a note.

It's a dangerous path though, because now you're customizing the car.... :)

I have a WRX muffler that I had on my 98 GT if you want, a shop can do any extentions you will need as the wagons are longer than the tips alow for proper mounting (you will get fumes in the cabin if its not long enough) but that wont be more than $20, I got a UEL header and the WRX muffler put on with FULL custom piping for $170 total on the GT so its much MUCH cheaper to do custom. but I should be able to ship it but its heavy so it will be expensive, so like $50 shipped would work for me I'm not trying to make a bundle off it. it would just be nice to see it used not just sitting in my garage:)

My exhaust shop did custom piping and a muffler that was a little bassy but not obnoxious at all and I love it.
