This came out of a 2000.

I've never had a spring perch come loose on any of my other Soobs, but they are all the older style with the larger diameter spring/perch that is welded. This almost looks like it is just crimped in place.

Yeah, North east PA salt and about 140k. But I've seen much worse rust on old struts that were still structurally sound but had no dampening left.

It's on the kid's car, they got it about a week ago...

Like I said, I've never seen one fail in this way. If it's not common, I'm gonna call it a fluke and leave the other one for now. If others have seen this then I'll recommend that he replace the other side as well...

And yeah it is factory, has "Subaru" stamped on it.

I believe that its recommended to replace both at the same time.

Yup, really, you should replace all four struts.
