Just use some masking tape to tape off the lens, scuff the part you wish to paint with fine grit sandpaper, use a coat or two of spray primer, use a few coats of your cars color after the primer has dried, be sure to allow enough time between coats. Next shoot on alot of clearcoat, since these are in a fairly high impact area you dont wanna have to repaint them every month. Also as i have learned, remove the masking tape very carefully, there is a tendency to pull the paint off too. The best thing i found was to remask the lens before shooting on the clearcoat. Im sure theres a way to remove the lenses i.e headlight baking, I took the lazy way out and was happy with the results. The paint i used was just regular over-the-counter spray and primer. Its not the easiest to find a good match for subaru colors, some store have em some dont. As long as you know what the color is called you should be able to cross reference it at the auto parts store. I hope that this helps a little.

What he said:

Just cover the part that you don't want painted, sand, prime, sand, and paint. Then clearcoat :D (those are your cliffnotes)

And it is really hard to find auto stores with subaru paint. Just hit the dealer up for some paint, and do the work yourself, if you have a compressor and spray bottle.

Easiest way to get the tape off after without pulling the paint too is to use a sharp exacto knife just at the edge of the tape. Often the paint rips because it "overlaps" the tape.

does the black on those lights fit flush with the rest of the black ugly side trim?

there is a paint shop near by that matches the car color exactly. they took the color code on my vin plate and gave my color for my bumper. you can't even tell that my hole front bumper was repainted...
