I havent the slightest clue if it will work nor do i know all the tools that i will need. ive searched for some kind of walk through but couldnt find anything.

if anyone has done this before or knows how to do this please give me some insight.

trans in question is coming from a 97 GT leggo and im putting it into a 96 LS.

It'll bolt right up - just make sure the torque convertor/clutch/flywheel all match the trans that is being swapped in.

Trans removal is essentially the same for any EJ series engined Subaru.

you MAY have to worry about final drive(diff) ratios also, huffer im sure knows more, but i dont know if the 97GT and the 96LS have the same front/rear diff ratio, if they do, your golden, if not, youl need to switch the rear diff, or something will eat itself.

as for the swap itself, its pretty straight forward. i dont know of any walkthrus, sorry.

jack up car

pop both side ball joints out.

pull the CV joints.

disconnect the TQ converter bolts(i usually remove and set aside the TB to do this) turning the crankshaft w/ a 22mm socket(make sure to disconnect battery, or coil)

remove starter

disconnect trans cooler hoses

remove rear driveshaft at rear diff using a couple wrenches

disconnect linkage

disconnect pitch stop mount

disconnect electrical connectors

jack up trans pan with trans lift, or piece of plywood

remove Xmember

remove engine/trans mounting bolts/nuts

heave ho, shove, cuss and grunt

lower trans

it helps to remove, and install the trans if you jack up the front of the motor to tilt it back a little.

i may have missed a step or two in there, but it is pretty easy, tho intimidating if youve never done it before.

if you run into trouble, just post on the forums.

automatic or manual?? 2.2 5spd has a cable clutch, 2.5 5spd is hydraulic .. which adds more difficulty.
