View Full Version : Squeak when clutch is fully depressed while car is running

Hey guys

I have a 99 be legacy b4 5mt

When i first start the car in the morning with the clutch in i get a sqeaking noise and as soon as i let the pedel out it stops. It does it when the car is warm too but much quieter.

Only happens when the car is running. Tell me its not the T.O.B :s

my first instinct is that it is the throw out bearing. The bearing is only in contact with the clutch when the pedal is depressed which makes it a prime suspect.

Damn lol guesz it has to be done. Have been told that the throw out bearing is also known as the release bearing, is that correct? Had a second person tell me is was a spigot bearing so im not too sure now, anyone know?

Its the throw out bearing.. common problem on these cars.

If you do end up getting the snout kit.. be careful. Have someone put it in who KNOWS what they are doing. I had mine installed, and have had more noise from it since having the kit installed. If you dont NEED a snout kit, I recommend just going with a new throw out bearing and leaving it at that. The snout kit is mainly for people who's transmission snout is all scratched up and worn to hell. If yours is fine.. like mine was, I suggest just getting a stock throw out bearing that goes with a clutch kit and leaving it at that.

^^ not quite true - the snout kit is to avoid any premature or damage to the snout - regardless of the age of the trans or clutch.
It sleeves the snout, and provides an oversized TO bearing. When installed correctly, the TSK increases shift smoothness and helps clutch engagement. It also protects the snout from gouging from hard launches or uneven pedal work.

Yeah true. I just didn't really have a good experience with it. I still need to have my damn TOB replaced.. AGAIN because of the snout kit. It feels okay, but makes weird noises and crap. They deemed the TOB was defective, and have already replaced mine free of charge.. but I have to pay AGAIN to have a new one installed. Now, I cant completely blame it on the TOB, as I'm running a lightweight flywheel and STAGE 1 clutch kit from exedy.. so I'm not really sure what the deal is. Just throwing my opinion out there.
