View Full Version : Question Regarding Power Steering Pump. Are all 2.5 the same

I found a local power steering pump assembly from a 99 forester will that fit my 98 subaru legacy gt 2.5? The reservoir for the power steering looks different but everything else looks the same. Thanks

I had a 98 forester one on my legacy for years. Does the 99 have the remote resevoir? If not then it should work

that one look's like the impreza one, it has a plug on it.

op, what's wrong with your current pump?
I think that I have two legacy pumps sitting around.

looks just like the forester one I had on my legacy, except for the plug bit. Not sure if it'll work due to the plug.

Well, I wanted a new one since it leaking somewhere near the bottom as I see power steering fluid on top of the block and leaking down near my crank pulley. I read a few article to rebuild the pump but not sure which is easier to get a another and swap it or rebuild mine with the new seals. Thanks for your reply.

Well I took my off and I didn't find a plug so I will say that it won't fit. So where do you think is the common leaking spot for the power steering pump?

I wouldn't say there is one, but you should get some quotes on a rebuild. Might be a lot cheaper and easier.

yeah, it's common.
#4 oil seal

you can get a reseal kit for $15-20 bucks, i think?
but you need a press, because of #3 bearing.

once, I resealed everything but #4 oil seal,
it leaked still, but less. (and still does)
so then I ended up doing a complete reseal on a different pump, but haven't installed it yet.
