1999 USDM RHD Legacy Wagon, picked her up out in the middle of no where, roughly a two hour drive. The vehicle was owned and purchased new from Carter Subaru (one owner) in a small town in Grapeview, WA about 2 hour drive from me. She is a diamond in the rough... Let the project begin! :smt023

Thanks guys, I did sell the outback so I have some spending funds but more so looking into a F430 Spider for next year so not sure how crazy I will "DIY" on this Subi. Like 250k miles. Shes a dark forest green but will change it up. I kept my 18" wheels off the outback so those will fit nicely, need some lowering springs, gt hood(might build a 11' STI hood), jdm tails, jdm spoilers (mid and upper), jdm grill and headlight combo, jdm power folding mirrors, jdm front and rear bumper, fenders (open to research still), interior swap (options open to research), jdm steering wheel, and of course more in the works that I shouldn't go into detail toooo much. lol
sounds like she's going to be a beaut! and a definite head turned cause of the RHD ! can't wait to see pics!

Has it even been done? Im like starting from scractch since I been in the 3rd gens for over 6 years and this is my first 2nd gen so I have no idea on what works with what yet. I have a ton of research and need some help to do it feels like.

Someone did GD bugeye sedan front fenders a while back. IMHO it didn't look very good. They're too boxy and squared off for how curvy the rest of the car is. Its all opinion though. Sounds like an awesome project, I can't wait to see some pix!
Is it AT or manual?

GTWagon from Canada put GD flares on the front of his wagon. I personally thought they looked great and added some aggressiveness to the front end. The 2nd gen bumpers are quite "soft" and very rounded out. I think he balanced it out with color-matched skirts and a Hipposleek rear wing. His car was also lowered and tinted.

Now looking at my Vin I have a BK7, anyone want to school me on this?
Huffer I think that's why I never been the biggest fan of the 2nd gens cause they are more rounded and not aggressive as I like them to be. I was even thinking or seeing if anyone has done a BE/BH front end swap. Can't be that difficult cause it's all in the front core supports.

The '7' in BK7 means 2.2L engine. '9' means 2.5L, '5' means 2.0L. There are others, but you could just read this: http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php ... 40#p197340 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?p=197340#p197340)
The third character in the model code depends on engine size (primarily), drivetrain, and suspension.
And I've seen a 2nd gen with a BE Blitzen front bumper and wheels. It can found here: http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php ... 54#p237454 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?p=237454#p237454)

Well got a little time today while my daughter was sleeping. Installed drop in KN filter I had laying around, pull spark plugs and found some nasty autolite platinums that were in there I would say atleast 100k. Cleaned up a few things and still need to do tranny fluid change, front and rear diff fluids and oil.
Question: my wipers are seriously sloppy and seems to slid randomly over and off my windshield on my driver side. Any adjustments or do I need a whole new assembly?
Quick shot before bed, sorry not the best but it's a start!

Tighten the nuts on the wiper arm when they are resting in the off position at the bottom of the windsheild.

hey there matty when you say they are sloppy and slide around. are you thinking there is a tooth stipped on the wipper motor or maybe the thread on the wipper arm? just trying to picture what it is to come with some ideas.
Matty2Hotty
09-21-2011, 12:47 PM
I read a huge thread on this on nasioc, it sounds like a wiper problem where the nylon socket is bad, I need some "help kit" for like $3.00. I will pull my assembly off later tonight and inspect it, it bangs against the a-pillar and has like 4" of play.

I have tried this
Unscrew the nut holding the wiper arm. Pull the arm off , rotate as needed and slide back on. There are adjustment notches/teeth that will match up.

Thought of that but it was 4" off sloppy play if I move the pass it moves the driver side. It's the white sockets, pulled them off today and were all chewed up. Post pictures on them after work.

is it the threads on the wiper motor that is stipped. causing the nutt not to get a tight fit on holding the wiper arm. 4" is a lot of play.
ill wait till you get pictures posted of it, once i can see it ill have some ideas, not to mention plenty of time to research.( man retirement is grand for that)

on both side of the lisence plate all bubbly(rusting out under the paint pretty gross looking), just a ton of rust. Don't really want to mount my spoiler to the rusty hatch.

Yeah complete even with center light, got some mint outback seats which only cloth but for $60 front and rear... Upgrade from my ripped, 200+lbs driver, smoked in seats. Wish I just got more parts off his back then, got smashed pretty good as the front end was trashed but only 45k orginal miles on it.
Of course I was only intended to get his outback rear bumper to upgrade from mine since Outbacks have a diffuser style with exhaust cutout that fits my jdm exhaust perfectly. One thing turns into a garage full of parts dang it.

We had this discussion  . That grille is supposed to be for the early (type A) model JDM bumper (smaller non-projector fogs) but you fitted a late (type B/C) model JDM bumper (bigger projector fogs).
Anyway, good to know it fits well even with the late model bumper. I might go check a couple of grilles for the early model and see how they fit on my late model GT-B. :smt023

I got it from the same vender on eBay that ships super cheap, I talk to them directly instead of on eBay so know before hand what bumpers they have, hence why I lost that limited bumper cause I didn't realize they posted the day before I talked to them.
It's just a STI Limited lip I added...

The speed at which you make a car look completely badass astounds me.
I bow to you.

Hopefully, got the motor ordered today! Tranny is in the shed waiting to bolted up once the motor comes(debating on pulling the torque converter off and changing gaskets on it. Most likely pull the timing off before I drop the motor in. Spoiler is getting mounted tonight or tomorrow and been lazy on making my headlight harness yet so I need some motivation.

That shouldnt be too hard to find.... I scrapped 2 of them... Did you get the motor installed yet?
Matty2Hotty
04-09-2012, 02:53 AM
Dads taking the driveshaft to some shops tomorrow to see if any shop can do a serviceable u joint like Rockford makes, if not then yeah it will be wrecking yards or eBay. No motor yet, waiting on my headers tomorrow, timing kit Wednesday to show up, and then dropping the motor. So next weekend...

Yeah! Found one with 89k miles but 45min drive, just having a Rockford serviceable installed for $60 3min away at a driveline shop. Can't wait to get her on the road, itching to Drive her!

Just snowball effect... Now the shop took off my throttle body and forgot it... WTF. Now I got my motor but no throttle body. One thing after another it always seems like with every single Subaru I owned in some way or form. They found it and shipped it out priorty.

Found out i need to find a throttle cable bracket that mounts to the intake manifold that mines missing buttttt Almost 1140pm.... Let the horses sing.......

Nice! Get it done! Let me know if you need a bracket, I might have one...
Matty2Hotty
04-16-2012, 02:20 PM
Thanks! Got the bracket 5min ago in my mailbox... Dad dropped one off before he took off to the ocean. Now I need to solder up a wiring harness for my headlights, finish the fog light wiring, new drycell battery, and rebuild/remfg the whining power steering pump.
Update: need a different Throttle bracket, guess there is a good 3 or so different ones. Just great.

Well to add more fuel to the burning fire... Either the Subi has been abused too much in the past or she is just loving the warm garage staying dry.
Got a reman power steering pump from orileys at lunch time... 1150pm installed the pump... Come to find out my banjo bolt for my inlet hose that goes into the pump is too small and the pump itself has a larger threaded inlet. WTF. So now am lost... Maybe track down a 96-98 power steering bolt or kick the Subaru out of the garage and let it sit outside. Seriously?!?!

You should be able to use it...You need to swap out the adapter from the original where the banjo bolt goes...
I had to do this when I installed a 04 Impreza PS pump in my 95.

Yup, went back to get my core and they luckily had a air gun handy to pop them off. Car runs great! Took her out and did a couple freeway drives and cruised around! Rumbles just like my WRX minus the turbo.
Last on the list.... Rear Tint and Wheels. It will be a while!

Yeah. The guy seems super cool and everything, if he wasn't I wouldn't waste my time selling it.
I'm sorry Reason and everyone else who follows!!! I enjoy making cars unique to a point of seeing what else someone can throw at it to make it that much more amazing. To be honest... Wouldnt it be boring to see a finished project of mine? That's kind of a trick question cause I honestly don't think there is a end to modifying my vehicles.
Robin... I think Hans got his hands on another set, but it will be a while before I jump into any other car unfortantly. I will be still be around and on the site, it's like a habit!
