View Full Version : replaced my 1999 legy w1997 gt cluster now speedo dont work
My speedometer doesn't work and I need HELP!!!
A while ago I replaced my 1999 legacy wagon cluster w a 1997 gt sedan cluster w seemingly the same connector in the center green connector speedometer cable. Now the speedometer, odo, and trip all do not work.
I really need to get it fixed and I don't know where to start...
HELP!!!

Sounds like you didn't tighten the 3 screws that hold the gauge to the cluster.
Those screws are the + / - contact points for the membrane pcp board (Circuit)
If there is no power then the odo/trip will not register

also, the legacy L cluster has 20 mph more so the speedo will be off unless you fixed that

I beg to differ..
The signal sent from you tranny to your speedo does not change the rotational output unless you just used the gauge face. The electronic motor should handle the increments with no hassle Plug N' Play that is if you used the same style speedo connector on the back of the motor.

I put an L style guage cluster in my GT 2 years ago. The mph on the speedo was different than my gps unit. Of course all I changed was the cluster and the plug on the speedo.
these arent quite helping me figure out whether or not i need a new speed sensor or harness lol....
any additional suggestions??
are the pinouts the same for these 1999 legacy 30th ann wagon than on the 1997 gt???
checked the speedo wire and it is getting power to the connector...
is the placement of the wire in the connector different in 97 vs 99?
please let me know if it is as simple of a fix as changing the insert position of the wire in the connector head
