Ok. I think I have a hole in my exhaust.

When driving around and I can hear a deep put-put noise that is based on RPM, doesn't matter the gear. Its not a ting or a ping of the valves. It sounds to me like its coming from the passenger side of the car.
But it only does that in gear to my ears. A slow RPM gain in neutral, I can't hear it.

So, could it be an exhaust leak? If not, any suggestions? I just don't have the time to look under the car for awhile and the weather is turning to rain here for the next day or 2.

EDIT: Forgot to add. I don't have a heat shield on any of my exhaust (took it off in 2009) and lately I have been smelling my exhaust when I stop motion for any length of time.

Yeah, is it the stock exhaust?
16 year old car?

Yup, exhaust leak. In the morning, when it's cold out, start the car and get on the ground. You should see exhaust gas leaking from the system. Or, get a water spray bottle and mist it around the exhaust, where it blows away from is where you have your leak.

Ok...Will do if its not raining. Thanks a bunch. I am no mechanic so I just wanted reassurance on what I thought was wrong.

I am planning on replacing the exhaust anyway, already secured the buy of an 05-07 WRX Catback. Need to still locate a new header, preferable a UEL one.

IF you have the 95 EJ22 you can get the Speedyracer UEL headers for something like $150-160 shipped.

Just make sure your stock headers are dual port. I don't think there were any 95s that weren't, I think 96 was the crossover year, but you never know.
