Am I trying to do too much with tires?

I just bought a set of 18x8 +45 rims. They're going to go on a 2000 Subaru Legacy BE5 with adjustable coilovers. Right now I have some 18x7.5 and they fit w/out any issues. What I want to do is get some 255/35/18 tires, but I don't know how well those will fit. Anyone have any ideas?

8 inch rim is 205 mm wide. 255 will have the sidewall bubble. all the pics you posted are stretched meaning tire is narrower than the rim not wider. plus you will tramline like crazy with 255's. just get some 235 you'll enjoy the car a lot more.

Those pics you posted looks like theyre all running at most a 215 width tire, or a much wider rim (the 2nd pic looks like 9+" width wheels)... If you're after the "stretched" (improper fitment) look, you'd have to run at most a 215 width on an 8" wheel. Also, 255 is a little too wide for an 8" wheel, 245 width the max suggested width, and your offset is right for function, but "wrong" for the kind of fitment in the pictures.

For reference, this is what 225 width tires look like on an 8" width rim...it's right about perpedicular to the face (enkei rpf1 17x8 +45 offset w/ Kelly Fierce UHP 225/45/17).

Depends on what you're trying to do. Trying to increase your constant contact patch? Or go for the stretched (improper fitment) look?

no.

And don't think about running spacers either, unless you like having your lugnuts come loose and your wheel comes flying off while on the highway.

Your new wheel will sit right were mine does in the rear in the picture I posted.
