As a female, its kind of hard for guys to take me seriously when i say i want to tune up my car. I recently bought a 2009 Legacy and i still have a bunch of payments to make on her. I work in the car industry and i want to know what would be the easiest/ most inexpensive mod i could to to improve the power/performance of my car with out having to sacrifice too much. Also, wanted to know if this would be a good track car? I'm debating on making this car a show car and having it perform on the track. i know it'll be expensive to take out to the track, but in time i think i will have the $ to do it.

What kind of track are you going to drive? Suspension is very important with the twisties, but so are tires. If you are looking for track and show a nice intake, exhaust and a tune will start you off in the right direction. Good luck wrenchin!

Best thing you could do would be to sell it and buy something more oriented towards track. You will lose a significant amount of value on the car by prepping it for track use. It doesn't make sense to take something you still owe loads of money on to the track because crashing is a very real possibility. Ask me how I know. And even if you happen to be an unparalleled driver, the guy who's following too closely behind you may not be...
With that being said, if you have a turbo in the car:
Intake, exhaust, 5-point harness, stickier tires, stiffer rear sway bar, white-line anti-lift kit, Hawk brake pads.
If you do not have a turbo in the car, see the first sentence of this post.

Yea I was thinking that or engine swap but owing on the car limits your mods. Especially if it is under warranty.

If turbo, get a catback exhaust, up/down pipe and a professional TUNE.
Swaybars, better brake pads...
Oh, and driver training. Actually, just go and get driver training - everyone should, regardless of age, gender or experience.

This and better tires are the FIRST things that should be done on any car that's going to be tracked/auto-x'd, etc.

suspension, wheels n tires(so you dont have to use the "race" tires on the street) then slowly work towards the engine keeping your "show" side in mind.. Do it right the first time..
