Tylerhartman’s 96 Legacy outback
If i remember right i got it june 8th 2011 like 3days after summer break started w00t!

Hi, I’d like to start this off and say I’m new here so…. Hello!
The history of my car, Well back when I was 16 I started the hunt on searching for a car… After countless Google searches I knew I wanted a Subaru very soon I’m moving to the country and needed a car to handle snow ( Like in the middle of no where) no really but isn’t city and road aren’t maintained very well let’s say that.. After looking at car lots, and Craigslist I found one for 1500$ And setup a time to look at it.. So I went to look at it I kind of didn’t do all the looking I should have oh-well my issue… It was advertised it had a Salvage title, Weak rear passage window, COLD A/C, 118,00miles, for 1500 way less the most of the outback’s and legacy around here in Cincinnati. So I go to look guy shows it to me under a tree on a not very sunny day so I didn’t know what I was getting into. It ran fine. Seemed to shift good and a/c seemed all well on the test drive Guy lived in country. So road where not a great ride, I knew when I got there it have the Title big deal.. When I first walked up to it so many bad/not good signs alerted didn’t listen to my gut darn it! It had the wrong grill (old legacy) Wrong mirror, Too rear rust spot in the normal spots not fixed “right” The Keyless box was tossed in the back.. On other notes crappie self window tint, missing rear passage speaker grill, broken arm rest clip. The list goes on.. So I talked with the guy and he said he wouldn’t go down on the price.. I give him a 100Depost and The next day we go to pick it up.. Oh dear! Meet him at the bank give him his 1400bucks hands me the keys and title and I was set
on the way home, I knew the tires needed balanced.. okay what ever on the way me and my dad are like let’s turn on the air didn’t work.. went to Autozone and got A/C refill.. didn’t help to much apron opening the hood (and I did open it before I got it) The Radiator support is all bent up didn’t look like no hit it like I was told.. and we go to refill it and find stop leak (green stuff) in the a/c fill jack..
So we took it to the local tire discounters to get it balanced.. and asked the nice guy when they went to do so if they’d check the car for any issues along the way.. no more then i swear 5mins I’m out in the shop .. they find it has a Stuck Brake caliper front passenger side.. errr also I forgot once we got on smoother roads it has a Transmission bump.. between 1st- and 2nd. Once it was back home the body started looking even worst.. when we where a the tire store they had bright lights in there you can see the damm hood has been repainted and now the back got some ghetto paint job on the rear hatch too. and fender is not much better.. so for a few mouths now it’s been parked cause of where moving to a new place out in the country as I said before.. so I’ve been busy helping to get that done (Building this place are self’s ughh, so I’ve not had any time.. So it remains parked in the mean time the parts are getting ready for the fix and repair :D Local Junkyard have became friends..

So far I’ve replaced and or have the stuff to do so..

You should post some pictures here instead of linking to them. To do that (I also use picasa), to the right of the photo should be an info bar. In that it should say Link to this Photo. Click that and then a few more things should pop up. Select image size (do 400 or 640) and check the box for image only. After thats done, copy the web address from the embed image line. Take that address and post it here with [i m g] in front of it and end it with [/ i m g] (without the spaces).

Nice start to the car. I wish I had a local yard. Im stuck traveling to find yards with parts.

Wasn't bad.. Don't try to do it at night like i did with my Driver side one haha. I did the passenger side that morning and wasn't to bad at all. They look great i need to pick up the Center Garnish later on. All you need is a Blow dryer (Heat guy would be way easier and faster) A 10MM Socket You need a Deep welled one. i got due with the one i available at the time Short one, And a Phillip screw driver and a flat one and a Old shirt or something is what i found took me about an hour-half.

Thanks, and Your OB you looks great! I love the vinyl on the Emblems.

What Projectors are you thinking on using.. I Saw online something about FX35 i think and you could run Bi-Xeon's in them so they can be your high and low beam.

I might just get the JDM's To make it easy..

Okay, I went to seafoam my baby today.. And when i opened the Oil cap while the car was running it was blowing a good amount of air out the oil filler tube(It was like the exhaust pipe) haha. I Hope that semi normal? I also think i have a radiator leak it smelled hot after it ran for a while, and there was a small amount of Smoke/ Steam or something comeing up behind the rad Kinda by the drivers side fan and it looks shinny on part of it and dull on the other so i think it is leaking? I don't know.. I hope this isn't super bad.

I haven't for some reason i though since it was a 96 it has HLA ( Hydraulic Lash Adjusters ) And it didn't need Adjusted! Maybe I'm wrong haha.

I don't think this 100% correct.
96 should be HLA and are self adjusting, but a lifter could be faulty be seizing or going dry..
If dry there could be some build up in the rocker arm starving oil from the lifter.
Or just seized up on you. There was a diy somewhere that shows how to fix it.
Pretty simple

Tylerhartman

Installed the PCV Valve and air Filter, And after i did that it would start 1600RPM, then die lol. Started freaking, Then i flowed my steps backwards and must have knocked a air hose off my intake! haha. After all that it runs fine, But after i left it run for about 20-35mins if i open the hood. it's steaming on the radiator or by it or something, behind the fans and the temp gauge is under the half mark. New radiator time? The fans are not running at all till i turn the A/C on Normal? If i rev it up more steam appears. all this is happening on the drivers side by the overflow/ A/C compressor.

I'd go with a TS-R badge, but I'm slightly biased! I also know that the TS-R badge is big enough to cover the holes in the hatch left by the Legacy badge.
You would also be only the 3rd legacy to get that badge on sl-i, at least that I know of!

Coming along nicely I Want to do the Honda wiper mod

Thanks alot! :D I got it on eBay, I put the link to it below, and the same with the blade but you may actually save money by going local but I'm a sucker for ordering online.. Maybe sucker isn't the word lazy is lol. it's super easy took me a whole 1-2mins to do it so its not time consuming at all.

Dang it! Why do you have to post cheap mods links.... I just fell into the trap, felt guilt and ordered one for my wagon LOL
Been debating to do this the last 3 months.

Well, I was digging thru some old stuff on my computer and figured I'd give this one last post to all the people who followed this. I know a bit weird 6 years later from my last update, but I like to log stuff more now then I did back then :P

as you may notice my car was missing fenders and had a white hood back in this story, long story short this car had hit a deer some point before I owned it and nothing was right up front! I and my dad drilled all the old spot welds out of the frontend to prepare it to weld a new upper support and rail plates? forget the names of them

Test fitting the fender after my dad welded the new pieces on

Flipped some new brakes on it, one was sticking

once it was back togther (only pic I can find)

at this point I posted it up for sale, didn't seem worth it to keep it. needed a lot more work yet, planned to try to buy another after this but couldn't find any nice ones I liked. ended up with a honda element after this, and then my dream legacy..
Sold the car, new owner's friend had a body shop and resprayed part of it for him!

many years later, this is my new dream legacy! (ignore the dirt)
