Cooling fan question

I have an 02 OBW and the other day I noticed that both my cooling fans come on when the heater control is on defrost/floor??? If I set it to just floor or dash the cooling fans are off.....this happens when the engine is cold (A/C is off of course)...anybody know whats up with this? or is it normal.....(can't be)..

my guess is that the defrost setting turns on the AC to improve how quick it can defrost the windshield. Dry air removes moisture better than warm air...

I believe only one fan is supposed to come on with defrost so I am not sure why both would come on .

Defrost activates the A/C compressor automatically. Anytime the compressor is on, the fans will turn on automatically. If you want to defrost your windows, you want dry air, that's why the car uses the A/C.

This. The air has to go through the ac dryer in order to actually clear the fog from the inside of the window.
