$2 eyelids(BD/BG)

after driving in the fog, i saw how bad the cutoff(or lack there of) of my non-projector HIDs were. So i made some budget eyelids that look clean, cool, and hopefully are quite effective.

Materials

-flat black electrical tape
-razor blade

Process

1. Take off your grill and set aside
2.find the angle that you want the eyelid to be at
3. lay a long enough piece to cover the headlight so you can fit tape around edge to prevent peeling.

4. keep putting on tape till the decided area is covered

5. i also put it on my corner lights as well

6. reassemble grill and enjoy!!!

Ive tried to use yellow vinyl to tint my headlights before but the curvature had a lot of bubbles.......maybe wider electrical tape(if it exists??)

Yea it works. I think you can measure and precut some vynal or even dark tint. The look overall is great.

That tape will leave residue when you take it off. I did something like that a few years back and theres still a little residue on my right headlight.. Might be better to get a can of flat black spray paint from wally world and paint them on.

Yeah, I'd recommend against this. When electrical tape heats up (which it will on a headlight) it gets very gooey, degrades, and leaves a terrible residue.

Take it off ASAP.

A good vinyl make could get you factory paint matched eyelashes for not very much. In fact I think Phi11 (who does vinyl everything) did something like this a number of years back.

Does this interfere with your beam patterns at all? I mostly only see eyelashes on Legacys with projector headlights (JDM) where it wouldn't get in the way...

the beam pattern is actually a bit better now because the light is wildly emitted outward and is no aimed closer the ground. and if it does leave a residue, ill just sand my headlights to clear'em up

Use 3M Vinyl, the stuff is amazing. If you doing get it right you can take it off and reapply it.

I've been tossing around this idea as well. I mean, im in no class, but i'm be making my own regardless because I have an extra set of lights to use as a mold.

believe me, that tape was off within a week(as so were the HIDs).

Bump to this thread:

I went out to enjoy the nice weather today and got a wild hair up my ass to do this mod. I did not use tape, no offense OP, but instead painted my JDM projector's matte black.

Fairly simple process, I began by removing the grill, pulling the headlights and unwiring them (they're hardwired in). Then I brought them inside my shop, painters taped them off, and sanded with 90 grit (WAY TOO ROUGH, 250 or higher would be better). After that, I took them outside and hit them with 3 coats each, waiting 5 minutes in-between, and with a distance of ~8" from the lens.

After letting them dry I took them and installed left then right, and re-wired them back in. Even screwed up the right one the first time. GD daytime running lights... *grumble* Total time, 2 hours, with most of that spent either waiting or re-wiring.

What I would have done differently: I'd have gone a little further down. I used a line etched into the lens so I for sure had the lines straight, but it isn't far enough down to truly knock much glare off of the HID's. I do think it looks pretty good though.
Oh, also, try for a color that matches your car. I think that would make it look even better.

EDIT: I just went out and aimed them again. The mod levels off the top of the HID beam a bit, and it looks quite nice from inside the cabin, though it is bright from the outside looking on. As always, I aimed the driver's lens a little lower than the passenger headlight and brought them in a bit closer together. I love the outcome, much less light escaping upwards into the eyes of other drivers.
