View Full Version : Window power
My rear driver window seems to be having trouble closing sometimes. When its dry it closes pretty good but when it rains sometimes it would close up almost all the way and stop then I would open the door and close it. The only thing I can think of is the window switch or the window motor that might be bad or something. Changing out the window switch is pretty easy but I cant seem to locate the window motor. Has anyone ever swapped out any window motors? I have looked in the diy section but I couldnt find anything on this so I thought Id ask.

Can you be more specific?
Does the driver side master switch work for the rear when its raininig?
Does the rear driver side switch work in the rain?
Window switches are run in series.. All switches must work properly in order for the masters switch to function properly.
Its usually the switch but just for enlightenment heres the regulator

A lot of Subarus have slow windows. My 98 BD has slow windows.
I'm bet, like Chuck, that the switch is fine. If the switch had a problem, they wont work at all. It's more likely the regulator...
Another way to test is run it up and down with the door open. Sometimes the rubber makes the window slow because it's not as slick as it once was... just some ideas for you to try out...
The indent on the inside of the door is where the window regulator is...

I am not 100% with you dead... Window switches eventually get sporadic since the contacts get gunked up with finger oil and what not.. There are many scenarios where the switch works 1 out of 20 times.. like so many BD/BE owners have been dealing with. But because this is an environmental issue (rain) it does sound like the regulator is shorting out from water/moisture.
FIY..
Vaseline or any gel type lubrication rubbed on the window seal will:
1) allow smoother up/down gliding
2) prevent the moisture that gets caught during hot / cold transition from freezing in the winter :-D No more kicking the door to get it to open :-D
The joys of frameless windows.
While your at it you can replace the soft pads on the door frame so you wont get that notorious Subaru Windows center scratch.

Oh, no I wasnt saying the switches dont go bad. However most of the time if the switch goes bad, it does becomes glitchy with when it works, not so much weak. If he cant close it with the door shut because it slows but then it goes up fine when the door is open, I would think that would be a regulator getting weak. I could be wrong, but thats what I would start with. Also a master switch is not hard to do at all.
Good call on lubing the windows! :smt023 I should really do that on my rear glass, they dont like going all the way up...
Not disagreeing with you at all, I have re-built many window switch's, most of the time in Toyota's.
I have a problem with my BH driver window every now and then and I know its the switch, not the reg. I slam the door and hold the switch leaver up and it works... haha... I'm too lazy to fix it...
