View Full Version : Going VIP with my 95 BD

Hey I decided that I'm going to go with the VIP style with my car since legacy’s were considered luxury and my car is auto. I just like to have other people’s ideas come out in the open with VIP styling to legacy’s and even would like links to sites and other places on the net with pics or products having to do with VIP and even anything for BD model legacy’s in the luxury since.

First thing you should do is rip out all of the carpeting, and sound deaden the crap out of everything (floors, doors, trunk, etc). There is absolutely nothing underneath the carpeting on the floors and very little throughout the car. Not really aesthetic, but it will make the car feel like a dream.

Other than that, it's all about personal taste and style. Luxurious cars usually ride smoothly, accelerate smoothly, are quiet, have nice sound systems, and comfortable seats.

Hahaha ^^^^

Nah I'm not going to go hardcore now since our cars aren't big body sedans but I'm still going to have it set up pretty sick.
But one thing I would probably try is what mark said about making the carpet sound dead. I do plan on replacing my gray carpet with black at some point so id try that then.

Ok, in truth... a VIP car is Baller, Gangster, bla bla... Not stripped out ricer. What your doing is taking a rally car and making it a cruiser. It's like turning a Lexus into a Rally car... The Original Legacy (1st gen) was a WRC car...

Can be done... It's just gonna take a bit of work to do it right... I'm still sticking to the disco ball!

I know what you drive, I did read it... I was referring to the history of the Legacy's... I drive a 98 BD GT Limited... I see my car more as a race car then a Luxury car...

MarkSubi

I see mine as both because its styling is race looking but they tried making it somewhat luxury on the inside atlest the top of the line legacys

It's in the name; GT.

You can make it sportier but it's still a grand tourer.

I think the AMG style rims actually look pretty good on the second gen, Weds make some cheap ones, I'd go that route.

do you have the leather int? if not start there, big euro style rims like merc or audi, really dark tint, air bags for sure, de-badge it, spray the grill chrome or match to the body, what colour is it? if the paint is lame get it in done in that black with dark red flake that subaru did so well (dont know what its called), get the fake wood grain interior if you dont already have it, redo interior carpets headliner door cards, dynomat the shit out of it, install a good stereo and I dont mean a stupid sub box- DONT GET SUBS! get good door speakers and a small amp to run them and youll get more than enough bass fishing :smt023, and on the stereo thing if you dont have the stock tweeters get them their awesome my wagon has two sets of tweeters one in front one in back. make sure to remove the gt spoiler VIP's dont have them. also hid lights and maybe jdm tails would look good, and GT-B bodies look pretty high class to me if you can find the bumpers and grill that would look pretty nice.

And don't forget a personal driver. VIPs need to ride in style. You can't enjoy wine and drive at the same time. It's not as classy.

So no one seems to be taking this seriously... But I love the idea of a BD VIP... its a bit hard to pull off since the BD is not a ubber large luxury roller.

So the list begins:
- Large chromed out wheels with somewhat HellaFlush look
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/10/2EER6332_Justin_Wu_infiniti_M35_vip_11-1.jpg

- Aggressive Camber
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/10/dumped_gs400_1-1.jpg

- Low low low
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/10/LoweredVIPStiffspeedpng-1.jpg

- JDM VIP Interior *tight*
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/10/2010customsubarulegacyvipinterior-1.jpg

True VIP is all about the Japanese Mafia "Yakuza" styling..

Lots of money in suspension and wheels alone... but hey if ur down I say do it!

Big drop on 17x8s and 17x9s and 205 40s, 4-5 degrees of camber, at least +25 offset, on VIP esque wheels (AMGs or Weds Farmas mentioned above would look awesome). 17x8s all around and a slightly higher offset if you want to tuck rim though.

Aka, what my setup for next year is minus the VIP wheels :).

Yeah I got all leather interior and yeah no need to worrie I know exactly how I want to do it but with some stuff id definitely like links to parts and what not. Yeah i have a 95 LSI legacy, its that metallic maroon color, idk what the color code is It just looks that way to me so thats how I put it.

Also Thanks chuckthefuk, I am serious when I say I'm going some what VIP

Ok, if you really are gonna do this, you need to go bigger then a 17". Thats only one in bigger then stock on a GT... 18"s or 19" would fill everything nice.

Everyone is right on the suspension. It's gonna be spendy!

Can't go low on 19 let alone 18s. I rubbed through fender liner on stock 185 70 14s. 18s on a 215 35 or 40 would be bigger than the stock tire. Hence you will not be low.

Yeah but those cars have bigger bodys thus it fits well, putting huge wheels on a BD wouldn't look right, the biggest to me for it would be 17's yawl also need to think of the tires to. Like I said before I meant sorta vip not hardcore.

Ok, you say the wheel well is too small... You need think outside the box...

Fact: S13 (240sx) and BD wheel wells are close to the same size. It's all about offset, and what your willing to do it make it work...

Here are some guys that thought BIG, as Chuck has said.

S13, I have no idea what size but those ant no 17"s!

VIP is a combination of extreme camber / rolled and pulled fenders / extreme offset and the $$ to go through tires... The lip as dead described is a necessity for the low factor.

You cant expect to roll VIP without the crippling limitations like "hard parker" and "slow and scraped"

Otherwise your just asking for a pampered interior with a generic stance..

And just for fun how about a Fozzy VIP:

Ok, this is YamazakiSubaru's GT-B... Note, it has 17"s stock... Looks like a big wheel will fit in there nice, with a bit of a drop... I bet if you look in his other thread, you will see some VIP Subies...

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2011/11/DSCF0804-2.jpg

Chuck pointed out what I forgot to bring up... most people roll lips, get adjustable arms, camber plates, and even some modify struts to get massive camber, if thats what you want. Some guys move strut towers up and do massive mods to the body just for 1/2 inch! Hell most Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and even the Subie guys run wide body's! Look at the STi, they come stock with wide body's! I have seen 19"s on an AE86! I couldnt fit a 14x7 Supra wheel and tire on that stupid thing with out mods! Yes, I has one once upon a time...

Seriously if your even going to attempt this VIP, don't half ass it at all. NO fake/replica wheels, No Peather interior and no spring strut combo even coilovers I would say no for VIP, there is a difference between "Stance" and "VIP"

List of 3 HAVE to haves to even be considered,
Bagged suspension... Check
Fat Lipped wheels 2.5" or larger... Check
Filthy clean interior... Check

If you get BC coils. Ask them to shorten the strut cartridges. I'm pretty much maxed out in the front. You'll also need an entire header back exhaust. Had mine tucked up A LOT. I'm switchin to 17's because 1. I scrape exhaust too much. 2. I feel 16's look small. and 3. You'll need a frame notch in the front. 17s, better fitment while sacrificing 1/2 or so of height. But an outback bumper will bring that back down. :smt023

Agreed...

You can build a VIP ride out of anything, but it's a complete style! Not just part. My Volvo project dosent have a style, it's so freaking random I have no class. It's a cross of Lead-Sled, Hot Rod, and Euro track car. Shaved trim, some molded body panels, and then a Nissan Motor... It's built how I want it... I havent even got to the wheels but TE37's are on the list...

Not trying to discourage the build, but if someone wants to build particular style, there are requirements for the class.

And yeah..... Deads' right. VIP styling has a rule of thumb that has to be followed to the T in order to be pulled off right. All the VIP builds I've done or seen have had some sort of "Luxury" feel and look, as well as the highest-dollar-spent/receipts to boot. Nothing but the best, and the class "V.I.P." should be a dead giveaway to what is to be expected of such a car. Doesn't mean you need a luxury car to start, just means your car should exude the phrase... "Bawllah!" =)

HUGE amounts of camber and fat 8" lipped wheels isnt a must
the camber only allows you to fit insane 12" wide wheels on a GS300
but you had better to be ready to grab a heatgun and rape the fenders to widen the hell outta them
budget 19ish wheel brands would be tenzo or tsw--id also consider axis or privat

for example
Privat Legende 19x8.5+35 215/35 front and 19x9.5+30 225/35 rear
slammed on some very stiff coilovers
fenders rolled and pulled an inch or so up front and close to 2 in the rear
run -3 to -5 camber all around and add as much bling as possible
run a full lip kit, buy a full body kit, or custom fab a supermade bodykit on for ultimate win

I agree. I find a million different 3rd and 4th gen Legacys done up in that style, but I very rarely ever see a 2nd gen... and it never looks as good as the newer models.
I'm not saying the 2nd gen is crap, far from it in fact. It just doesn't pull off the "VIP" style very well. It needs to be bigger and heavier to do that.

What yawl are saying is exactly how I am with it, I guess I should of made it clear that I mainly meant with the interior. I'm not going hardcore VIP inside since it is very little space but still want to make it just as comfortable.

I know what you mean, you want VIP flavour... SIP perhaps? (somewhat important person) Everyone's getting hung up on the name.

It's true, too many people are hung up on the name. The guy wants a VIP inspired BD. He doesn't have to go down the line what makes VIP what it is. Take what you want from the look and see what you have.

Junction Produce would be a start. I'm sure you already heard of them. They seamed to be a pioneer of the scene. Doubt their universal curtains, rear seat trays, etc... haven't already crossed your mind.

As for ideas...

led:

-courtesy/puddle lights (under mirrors)
- mood lights (BMW 5series had them under the rear view mirror)

just to give you a few ideas.

Ive never heard it "vip", I usually hear it V.I.P or Bippu, at any rate, just do what you want to the car, as long as it looks good to you! And if everyone else likes it, thats even better. It doesnt matter what style it has, if it looks good, then nothing else matters. Just like Reason said "inspired" is the best way to sum it up :)
And think you could send me a few Options and VIP magazines? :o I wish my market had them T.T
