View Full Version : Thinking of purchasing a baja-11/4 update

Heres the one i am currently looking at.

What I want to know is what you guys think of them, good or bad, known issues and what not. also when i go check it out this weekend what should i look out for? and does the price seem reasonable?

I would like to have one of those! Thinking that might be the next one after my BD, if I ever get rid of it... Most people thing they are pointless, but I like them! You can haul a fridge with it! haha!

Only thing I have heard goes bad is the turbos...

I always wanted to buy one, drop a STI in it, lower it, and black it out. I just think that would look cool.

Was it different from a Forester XT motor? I thought the engine/turbo was the same? They always had similar power output.

Ehh, I could be wrong, but I know the 05 LGT's had turbo problems, but it might have a WRX turbo... Thats the only negative thing I can come up with though

i have heard of the turbos failing because the filter screens get clogged and starves the turbo of oil.

the reason i was looking at these was to haul my tools around and take the trash to the dump, just simple things like that. i doubt i will have to haul a fridge anytime soon haha.

Yeah, people dont change out the filters like they should... Just did the ones my customers car...

Most people just remove the filter

I wondered the same thing till I talked to a couple mechanic friends... Quote "They didnt put them there for no reason" and "Yes, the catch junk and might plug up, but if they didnt, that crap would run through the turbo".

This is from 2 different friends... One builds and sells cars, the other builds races cars...

I can see that if the Turbo comes after the crankcase but before the filter in the oil line.

Good friend of mine just got one. He's "lumpy" on this board.

It's a sweet ride - they look good lowered and raised. They are an ugly duckling though, kind of like the A10 Warthog plane.

It's a sweet ride - they look good lowered and raised. They are an ugly duckling though, kind of like the A10 Warthog plane.

There definitely not the best looking car out there but i like them. and if i get one it will be lifted

FWIW the "filters" that cause oil starvation are actually mesh screens that are inside 2 or 3 banjo bolts that connect the oil lines to and from the turbo.

It is still up for debate as to whether or not removing the screens is good or bad in the long run.

Okay so i went and checked it out today and i loved it. there was practically no rust and cosmetically it was great besides the normal wear and tear. So i probably will be taking it over to the dealership sometime over the coming week(s) so they can check for service records and look it over themselves. the only problem i had today was the guy offered 2500 trade in on my car, which was a slap in the face. So if everything checks out with the baja i will probably just sell my car myself. If anyone shows interest in my car i will post it up here before i post it locally.
