4EAT to 5MT needs computer swap?

If you swap out your 4EAT for a 5MT do you need to swap ECUs also? Or is there a trick where you disconnect a few wires to think it's in neutral the entire time? Just crossed my mind today.

Depends on the year. On my 97 it ran fine with the AT ECU, but I needed a MT ECU to get rid of the CEL.

When xcntrk75 did his auto to manual swap, he plugged the Auto TCU back in and it cleared the CEL. He did a full WRX swap and used a WRX ECU (manual obviously).
