What tranny can I use? 99 Legacy.. 02 Impreza work??

So my 99 legacy 4eat has a good 340k on her, starting to act up but as much as i read 99 is a one year only tranny, so am I stuck only looking for a 99 or does any Impreza or early 02-04 WRX 4eat swap in my car? Phase 2 (spin on filter i can see) am assuming I have with my 2.2L sohc and YES am staying Auto only on this car.

Also sure it's not a tranny related problem but she has zero power in 1st or D untill 3k rpms or higher untill it kicks in and it feels like freaking boost. Need to do more reading but seems more so like a Air/Fuel problem.

Sounds like the clutch packs are worn out in the torque converter.

I too would like to know if other 4EAT's are interchangeable.. I have friend with a 00 BH 4EAT that needs a new one....

My friends issue is delayed engagement at idle. Proper fluids flush.. no metal shavings.. head scratcher for sure.

Matty, on the trans bellhousing is a "TZ......." number. That's your tranny number. If you use that, you can lookup interchangeability particularly with regard to drivetrain ratios etc. Imprezas typically have shorter gearing but similar final drive.

Chuck - your friend's BH 4EAT could just need an improved grounding system. The TCU is very picky about it's grounds.

Someone said the plugs and connectors might be different.
