I decided that I'm gonna play with some painting... Ok hang on, before you think I'm going all ricer on you guys, here me out... I was thinking, Wood grain can get old and boring, and spray painting it can be so "Hondaish".
This is the plan...
-Paint with REAL auto base/clear
-Use logical color (black/silver/gunmetal/Marble if I can figure it out/?)
-more then just the normal peace's
Peaces will include:
-all window switch trim (maybe even the pods they mount to)
-center vent
-stereo bezel
-console inserts (shift surround, e-brake bezel)
-Column covers (might be too much painting at that point)
-other parts?
I will be using plastic adhesion promoter to make sure the paint sticks well. I will then prime them and remove all texture, like the OEM wood grain. Then prep and paint... Goal is to make it look updated and slick without looking cheesy.
Do you guys think I'm crazy and this is pointless?

..../Marble if I can figure it out/?)
It's a fairly easy process. I have painted entire cars using House of Kolors Marbalizing set up. However, you won't need their kit nor paint. Just have to follow the same steps as their set up. Only thing you need to have is Syran Wrap.... pm me if you've never done this, and I'll tell you more

I was thinking of making the pieces the same color as the car. The sparkel would make it nice.

If I remember right, you just need to use the S/W when the paint is wet... I just cant remember if its with the base coat or the clear... :smt017 It's been about 10 years since I have seen it done...

I used Plastidip on my ladies wrx wagon center console pieces and it turned out AMAZING!
It is OEM black and slightly textured... I know it is not what you are going for but I can vouch for the stuff.

On the 2nd stage with the pearled clear AFTER the base flashes fully is what I do.

I used a Honda Silver/Grey color to repaint my trim as the old paint (black) was getting old. It looks close to stock, but I think better with the metallic flake in it.

I think that might be over kill... unless it was the one inside of the cluster... hmmmmm......

Well, I'm gonna get the stuff to do this. We will see how it turns out. Might be cool, might suck balls...
Only part I'm missing in the large shifter bezel, but I have all the other parts.

I was thinking about plasti-dipping the plastic panels in the car, and rhinolining the scuff plates by the doors...

I would try and do those, but to me they are a waste of time considering they have some much traffic over them.
I also got some stainless ones, I just need to get around to installing them...

Don't do it. I can take pics of my interior and the previous owners' failure if you want.

Paint a bunch of the interior parts. I did the main trim parts and arm rest in my first car and it was a huge mistake. They wore down eventually and looked like poop.

Come on??.... What did you expect ! J/K
Almost all of what you just described, seems like high traffic or flexible parts. What did you use? What was your approach?
Doesn't sound like it's going to contrast. From what I understand, he's not doing an entire console or dash for the F&F effect:

Don't know but if I read this right, he's only painting certain pieces custom and others refreshed???
I might go with the plasti dip. Tho the only part I'm considering painting is my window switches and shifter surround.

Right. I only painted certain pieces silver. I painted the arm rest, the trim that runs the middle of the center console, the radio trim, AC control trim, trim around my vents, and the glove box. It was a horrible idea. IMHO, it looks rice. If I was to do it over, as I will have to do this spring with this car, I would just do plasti-cote. If you want to do it and make it reverseable, it seems like some patience and heatgun with some vinyl would do the same job for less.
Edit: And I am well versed in automotive finishing. Everything was prepped and painted in a professional manner in my first car. The paint turned out well, but the finished product was bad...I forgot to mention the glare off of the windshield in the sun. If you used a darker aluminum or gunmetal paint, it might look ok.

I'm not going to use a bright color for sure! All the parts that I'm painting are extras that are worthless to most. I saved them from the last couple parts cars.
Gunmetal is the first color of choice, but we will see. I wont be painting major traffic peaces. It is meant to be subtle and classy, not crazy...
I just changed out the switch trim in my BH so I'm going to do some of that also...

I found a bunch of interior trim from my old BD that I might fool around with too... post some progress pics and maybe we can compare!

Definitely! I havent had the time to go get the stuff for painting plastic yet, but I will soon. I also was a bone head and tossed my shifter surround by mistake and I wanted to do one of those at the same time. Only part I'm missing...
As of now these are the parts I'm going to paint:
-shift surround
-e-brake cover (not the handle)
-power window switches (possibly the pods as well)
-Vent trim L, R and center
-Stereo trim
-Inner cluster trim (maybe, I do have an extra)
Almost tempted to try a set of door card inserts, but that would look RICEY as hell! Well, maybe not so bad if it was in Gunmetal....

I think I'm actually going to try wrapping my A, B and C pillars in some kind of fabric...

Alright... I'm gonna round up all the parts I have and see what I can come up with. I want to see if this will work/look good. I'll get some pics of the parts I'm doing today.
Hoping to be able to get the adhesion promoter I need this next week...
