Tribeca Limited

Looks like I've gotten suckered into buying a new car finally. The bad news is, it's not an STi. The good news is, it's a Legacy - kinda.

Went in for a casual test drive of the 2011 Tribeca Limited a couple months ago, and the dealer sent me a quote that I couldn't resist last week. Taking delivery on Friday probably.

Still keeping the turbo 1995 Legacy wagon, but still haven't gotten around to fixing the electrical issue. It will be interesting to have the contrast between old school/new school around.

The Tribeca is supposedly built on the BL/BP platform, and it pretty much drives like any Legacy/Outback, complete with the EZ36, 5EAT and 45/55 VTD. Subaru has quit giving us the Legacy wagon, but in many ways the Tribeca is something better - it's definitely way nicer than the Outback.

I doubt there are a lot of enthusiast Tribeca owners, but I guess I'll find out - I'm already used to getting weird looks showing up at Impreza meets anyway. Plus I'll get to learn about the EZ motors, which obviously has been used in Legacies for a while now.

Already starting to look for STi takeoff wheels for it LOL

I've always been curious about the Tribeca. I hear its quite fun offroad.

It's a moving lounge - it's so comfy inside, but it has a great turning arc. The AWD is good with that because the inside wheels can turn quicker.

I drove one for 3 weeks, but the battery drain if you leave a dome light on or the hatch cracked just a tiny bit is ridiculous. Tons of power, but the blindspots are a many. Especially lower down under the window lines.

I didnt know what the new ones looked like, those are nice! I hated the older ones with a passion, but the 2011's are not bad! Better looking then the 2011 Legacy IMO...

Maybe luxury by 1995 standards, but this is all standard stuff in 2011. The new Impreza 2.0 Limited has it all too - standard leather, wiper deicer, climate control, bluetooth, steering wheel controls, 4.3" LCD ICE, fuel computer... for $22k. It's not just me, it's 16 years of progress.


I could grow to adore the looks of the original Tribeca, but the 3.6L vs 3.0L is the improvement I care more about. The 3.6 has what I consider acceptable performance - I imagine the 3.0 would feel a little lacking.
