need help with alarm

my factory alarm has been going off on its own lately in the 98 outback with the code alarm. took it to the dealer and they said no override button to shut it off there is a programming button but no override. they told me that i would have to disconnect the whole alarm system. so tonight i was getting gas and i could not stop it from going off. it kept locking the car and setting the alarm and i could not get it to stop doing it until i was able to shut the alarm off momentarily and then start the car. now it is at home and i disconnected the battery. i want to get rid of the alarm but i do not know how and i am going to have to do this myself. i have herd that the remote and/or remote battery going bad can cause this. one remote is not working and the one that is has a new battery in it. any help would be appreciated.

Having the same problem currently as well. It would go out randomly and after I take the key out of the ignition. My remote is really used and so I think I may try a new battery first then if that does not work then a new remote which is very expensive. So let me know if you figure out something to solve this the problem and I will do the same.

i replaced the remote battery and will give that a try tomarrow. if that does not work and i continue to have issues i am going to have it professionally removed because i am not going to touch that system from what i have read about it online.

IT's most likely not the fob, but the brain... I had the same thing happen with my BD when I first got it. I got another brain from a Wrecker and have not had the problem since. There is a way to re-program your fob to a different brain, my buddy just did it with his BK.

Another thing you can do is unhook the wire for the siren just to at least make it so you dont look like a idiot at the gas station! haha... I did that for a couple weeks. One problem is, at least with my car, you cant just take the brain out and not use it. It made my car not start..

But yeah, try finding a new brain. I have one, but its my spare. I'll keep an eye out for another one at the yards just in case. :smt023

the dealer can take it out because it was a dealer or port installed option. 2 hours in labor and they will charge me $120. i will also keep my keyless entry. i will get it done soon. in the mean time i have my moms astro that i am driving.

Alarm is not that hard to work with. If you ever install a stereo, its pretty easy. Just time consuming. Theres website that tells you where the wires to tap at. Depending on your experience you can buy an aftermarket alarm for 50 new and transfer the wires to that alarm.

i will not touch electrical especially on my main mode of transport. i do not need to be stuck somewhere when i screw something up. i have never done a stereo install and would rather pay someone to do it right than for me to mess up and have an even bigger bill. i think the cars battery might be going bad and i am going to have it tested tomarrow, even though it is a year and a half old. if it is bad i will get rid of it and go to a high rated Kirkland battery.

thank you for those who posted a response. i am going to take it to the dealer at the beginning of next month. so now the issue is is that the rental Chevy Traverse my dad got to drive up to Oregon, when ever you use the remote on the Traverse it sets off the alarm on the Outback, even when it is unlocked. so i am going to just have to drive the Astro over to my grandparents because it does not have an alarm.

The BCM is bad. dealer is removing it. I called Car Toys and they said about $100 to put in a new keyless entry system in the car.

my bad was not the BCM, do not even know if i have one of those i do not know why i thought it was that. it was the alarm and keyless entry module that was bad. now looking at aftermarket. i do not want to have to replace one again.
