screwed up at work today...

I didn't torque a STi rod bolt properly. Came apart in the car.. bad deal. It's the first time I've fucked up, and my boss was pretty cool about it. but I feel shitty about it.

shit happens....best you can do is learn from you mistake and make sure it doesnt happen again. at least your boss was cool about it.

I'm guessing if the rod bolt came out while the car was running it was a pretty severe deal. Scored the crank-case at least, I would imagine.

The week that my girl broke up with me, I miss-installed a rear main seal in a customers Outback... Luckily I cough it before the motor let go, but still, a wasted day changing out a motor again... That was a month ago...

Feel for ya man! What ever the situation is... As a business owner/mechanic, it sucks when you mess up on something you normally never do...

Well I just goofed on the torque spec. (which is dumb cuz I know pretty much every spec on that engine off the top of my head.) I just wasn't paying attention. It wasn't to bad tho. It bent the rod, was bent and the bearings got chewed up from debris. But I just polished the crank, replaced the rod and polished the cams and everything else was good. I'm happy the piston didn't hit the valves, or whatever. Anyways I torqued the rod and put it on my desk as a reminder. I took doughnuts to work and bought my boss lunch cuz I felt shitty about it.
