This is my writeup for installing an Infiniti I30 auto dimming mirror in the 95-99 legacy outback models. There is no drilling needed. Running wiring is the hardest part. This total install took me an hour. Here is my generic writeup.

Heres whats needed:

96-99 Infiniti I30 auto dimming mirror
Both harness connectors from the new mirror and infiniti body harness
Wire to connect power and ground
Small pocket screwdriver to remove mirror base cover
Misc wire connectors for whatever else
Phillips screwdriver to remove and install mirror screws

Start by popping the cap off the stock mirror that screws to the roof. After you remove the mirror it will look like this

If you look at the new Infiniti mirror with the bracket cover removed the hold down bolt pattern is the same.
Here it is installed with the wiring being prepped.

The oem infiniti connector is a 4 wire connector. 2 wires are power and ground and the other 2 are for backlighting on the day and auto buttons on the mirror.

Black is ground
Grn/blu is switched power. I tapped into the illumination fuse so the mirror wont have power unless the headlights are on. Tucking the wiring up under the headliner and running it down to the fusebox will be necessary.
The last 2 wires are unused. I didnt use them for simplicity sake. The mirror works great without hooking them to anything.

Here is my new Oem Nissan auto dimming mirror installed without mounting anything to your windshield.

Cool I would do this if I didn't have that "panoramic" style mirror. Anyway good job I like little upgrades like this.

The infiniti mirror is slightly bigger and it doesnt fall down like the stock mirror did. For me this was a win win.. So easy to do too.

Might be going to the junkyard later to look for the Infinity mirror.

If I knew of another i30 with a mirror in it Id sell it to you.

Just remember to get both sides of the harness connectors, male and female. GL

Do you think i could do with out the "infiniti body harness" and cables and splice on some new cables and call it a day? if so i've found a handful on eBay and my Leggy is in need of some mods haha.

If the 1 you're getting has been cut at before the plug and has enough wiring, then Yes. As long as you have the wiring you should be all set. However, in some cases the wiring prior to the connector have different colors, so you might have to probe those wires.

How did you run the wiring to the fuse box?

I am looking to do this in a week or so.

I ran the wiring up under the headliner and down the A pillar. It was incredibly simple. Good luck.

Haha This is great. I had no idea there was a DIY on this. I just happend to be at pick n pull and though, hey, that looks like it might work, I got the wiring diagram from a maxima forum. Prior to the Infinity mirror, I hacked together a GM auto dim with compass and outside temp, but it suffered the same always falling downward problem. The gray interior on the Infinity is a really great match as well. Great write up and a good way to spend 12 bucks!
