Difficulty level: 1-EASY
Hope this hasent been posted before... Figured this would be good for the rookies! This is a super easy part to change, no need to go to the dealer or a shop! I must be stupid, I'm a shop owner! haha
So I kept getting a CEL for my knock sensor in my BH 2000 GT 5 speed wagon with a SOHC EJ25. I finally just broke down and went to Subaru and picked one up (It's nice when you own a mechanic shop and get wholesale). In hig population areas of WA, your car will not pass smog with CEL's and also its a good thing to make sure your car is running right anyway.
Typical retail cost should be about $100...
Tools needed:
-12mm socket
-ratchet
-long extension (8-12")
-pic tool (makes life easy for the unplugging, but not necessary)
1: Open your hood!

2: Locate the sensor...
It's located right under the throttle body on the driver side (left side) on the top of the engine block. It's not to far from the transmission.

3: Remove 12mm bolt
The sensor has a 12mm head bolt, holding it to the motor. I used a 3/8's socket with a wobbly extension to get down there.

4: Unplug and remove
Not hard at all! You will have a white clip holding the sensor plug together. It will have a pin, just push it down and pull. Dont get frustrated if it doesn't pull out easy. If it's hard to remove, knock it around a bit as it might have some dirt stuck in it...

5: Installation!
Now your ready to install the new one! Goes in just how the old one comes out.
-plug it in
-line up the bolt (pre thread, DO NOT run it in unless it goes in nice).

6: Last thing to do is clear your CEL and your done! :smt023
Sorry no pic of that...
If you dont have a scan tool, most of the parts stores have one and can clear your code for you or talk to a mechanic friend if you have one, I'm sure they wouldn't mind clearing a code for you.
