Recently my front end feels boring, or naked if you will. Since I can't drop the coin on another set of JDM lights I was thinking of pulling my stock 1 piece lights apart and painting everything but the reflector black. Anyone done this on stock lights?

I did after my deer incident. I left the headlight and turn signal area alone but everything else was black. I pulled the reflector as well.

Oooh I like that. Im def pulling the reflector but I think ill do my turns.

Are your lenses tinted?

I WOULD NOT darken the headlights at all either it be the lense or reflector. I remeber the stock lights being dull as hell before my jdms were installed. If you retrofit a projector or something then its fine, just dont mess with light reflection.

Lenses are not tinted. It was just a cloudy day. I only painted parts that were not used to produce light. That was the spare headlight I had.
Reflector was removed to get a cleaner look. As it stands right now. That is the only orange on my car is in the headlights..

Never said anything of the sorts. I plan on painting the trim around the reflector, and the corners.

Do it right take your time and you'll like it. Mine look very stock, but you can tell there is just a little something different. Light output is the same. Though it's hard to tell the eye is black also. Do not remove the eye, you will never be able to get it in the same. I learned from someone else's mistake luckily, good luck!

I think he means the reflector. Obviously you don't want to tint that and reduce the already poor headlamp output.

None of the parts that reflects light is black, it's the little centerpiece that goes right around the outside of the bulb, and only the outside of it is painted. That was a bad explanation. I'll take a picture soon.

I know I'm a generation older but I baked the lights on my car. Light output didn't change since the only area painted isn't used to reflect light.

Wow my car looks so bare compared to now..
