How do you tell the difference between a UEL and a EL Header?? Also what are the performace differences between them??

If I wanted a custom exhaust built and wanted the Subaru Boxer Rumble, what do I need to get to have it??

If I used EL Headers can I still get the Rumble???

I have a 2003 WRX exhaust and was thinking maybe it would be a lot cheaper and easier to have a custom exhust built than having to mod the WRX exhaust.

Any answers are welcome
Thanks,
Nic

Dont double post!! Give the server enough time to process your submission.

EL = Equal pulses.. aka better backpressure .. aka better perfromance.... aka lack of Boxer Rumble..
UEL = Unequal pulses... aka uneven backpressure.. aka.. less perfromance... aka BOXER Rumble

Its cheaper to mod the WRX setup, just extend the midpipe and change the hangers on the axle back portion...

The EL headers will still give you a boxer sound just not spaced out motor boat sound " putt.... putt.. putt. putt"

Cheers

No, UEL headers create that rumble sound. It's lost with EL headers. What you gain is true performance increases over stock vs. almost nothing from the UEL headers. At least with good ones.

And Chuck is right, it would be cheaper to mod the WRX exhaust as it nearly fits with only minor changes needed.

The guy I bought the WRX exhaust had a local exhaust shop where he lives do a full stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5inch catback exhaust with a can he gave them to put on his 2.5 RS. He told me that it only costed him like $100 bucks for everything. Thats why i was saying i was going to do a custom exhaust rather than modding the WRX exhaust that i have.

I'd like to do from the header back.

I have a muffler i can use if i get a custom exhaust.

What do u guys think would be a good high flow cat to get and what muffler would u guys recommend??

Also for a N/A car, i forget how many cats it needs to run properly? i know u need to have 1 to pass inspection.

Any Help is welcome.

I just did my friends exhaust system. Consist of ebay uel header, 2.5 piping (high flow converter, resonator, and oval obx muffler). It has a nice deep rumble sound. Used only one cat (factory have 2). Any high flow cat would work, he used obx tr08-25c muffler

IMO as long as you use a oval muffler (not canister, although subie still sound good with it) and a resonator with the high flow cat, it will have a nice sound.
