Does anyone know who makes the OEM subaru clutches?
I'm gonna need a throw out bearing soon in my 97 Legacy GT, and going to replace the clutch along with it. Boxer4racing has an OEM clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing for $250 + shipping.
I found on ebay an Exedy set that says it is OEM and Exedy provides the clutches to many Japanese OEM manufactures for $200 shipped.
I wanted OEM if the prices weren't too much different (since my oem clutch has laster 170k and its not even that bad. I'm just going to replace if while I am in there), unless the Exedy being of equal quality to OEM.
Or anyone else's thoughts on clutch replacement brands/quality...?

I know a lot of people have great performance out of the exedy clutches. That's what i am going with, as soon as I find a warm place and an extra set of hands to help install it.

I've got an exedy organic clutch and I love it. Perfect engagement point, and very similar (nigh exactly the same) pedal pressure.

I'm running EXEDY Stage 1 Organic Clutch Kit (Part# 15801) and its really nice. You should go with one of these as they are quite common, and are great! Feels the same as stock, and you will get use to it quickly.

I have and OEM Exert and it grabs as it should and pedal pressure is far easier to push than the stock clutch.

I have an Exedy clutch... paired with a resurfaced factory flywheel and a Tranquil 5mt snout kit (TSK).

^ id stay away from the snout kit if you dont need it. I put one on my car, didn't need it, and the TOB seemed to be failed from factory. Just a fair warning. If yours is junked though, might be a good idea.

This is exactly what I have and made driving much more fun.

You have an installation issue. The TOB that comes with the TSK kit is much larger and beefier than the Exedy part.

Wasn't an installation issue, was a failed TOB from the factory. They made good with me and sent me another one.. but I still have to pay 2x to get the stupid thing put in. Weird thing is.. the 'failed one' only seems to squeal in bad weather, so its not really a huge problem. I understand that the TSK is much larger, and may even be semi incompatible with the lightweight flywheel I'm running. Not sure. Wish more people were running the same setup so I could find out! TSK said its possible that the TOB from their kit, and the exedy pressure plate fingers are incompatible? I'm not even sure what that really means.. but its the explanation they gave me after the TOB went bad after first install.
Either way.. moral of the story: Don't fix it if its not broken. Mine wasn't, and i shouldn't have bothered putting a tsk kit on.

Nope, the TSK kit is fully compatible with the LW flywheels and Exedy clutches, ACT clutches. It's an assembly issue. If the locking pin isn't installed correctly, then the TO bearing will move around the input shaft, which is protected now by the titanium sleeve.
How do you know if the TOB on the TSK has failed if it's still in your car?
My trans snout was in good shape when I had the clutch and timing belt replaced, but I had the TSK installed anyway. Clutch engagement is way smoother.
