Well it was a good idea that doesn't seem like its going to work. What I wanted to do was bring the midbass up front using a set of CDT EF-8's in the doors using the stock 6.5" location. I knew I would need to build spacers to adapt to the factory mount, the question was "Will it fit" behind the grill ? Well here's my answer........... NO !

What a shame because they look sweet and will sound even beter. As you can see below, the speaker just pokes out too far even with the magnet placed back into the recess for the factory speaker. The problem is the mounting point for the speaker wire sits too far out and that's what doesn't fit into the hole. As a result, the entire speaker sits out a few inches too far and there's just no way its going to fit behind the grill. I am just not into modifying the door panel for a custom look, the cars is going to look 100% OEM which from a security standpoint makes the most sense to me.

Now it did just occur to me that if I were to cut away a section of the metal door frame I could place the speaker further back and I did get a SAWZALL for Xmas I haven't even used yet. Hmm........

I'm having a little trouble understanding what it is hitting on the back.

Is the speaker itself just hitting the back of the door frame?

If that is the problem, then I would say you are pretty much screwed.

If your problem is just that the diameter of the door frame isnt big enough you could probably fab something up...

With my speakers the only problem was that the plastic mounts that the stock speakers were in were too small to fit the back of the speaker. But I was able to cut away some of the plastic and make the speakers fit fine.

It seems to me as if you are having a little more serious problem...

Nope, take a look at the last photo and under the plastic and located closest to the door frame you'll see the two gold connectors. These are the mounting points where you attach the +/- speaker wire to the speaker itsself. THat's what sticks out and doesn't fit through the hole. Otherwise I could place the speaker deeper into the hole. If that makes sense :)

Could you trim the door frame out a little to get them sitting back, also remove the water cover, which you say the magnet is hitting, this will also allow for placement further back.

I know that they should fit within the door as I have seen a series 1 with 8" fitted in the front, and I'm sure that the door cards are about the same shape/size.
