I just bought a 97 LGT as a commuter car. I thought it didn't have keyless entry, and was about to buy an aftermarket system, when I looked under my dash, and there staring me in the face was a Subaru keyless entry brain.
How do I know which remote(s) will work with my system? I'm probably going to ebay a couple and reprogram them. Any part numbers or at least pictures of the remotes that came with the 97 Legacy?
Also do they include a trunk release or am I going to have to go aftermarket to get this function?

For my '97 Outbacks, the remotes look like this:

the one for our 99 outback was more rounded with a panic button. no trunk release though

ok, so I bought a remote off ebay much like the one that 'ivwarrior' posted. I programmed it last night without a problem. Something I noticed today, it only unlocks the driver's side door when you hit unlock. Even when you press it multiple times. Is this the way it's designed or is something wrong? If that is the way it's supposed to be, I'll definetly be going aftermarket...

you have to hold it down to unlock the passenger side. Experienced that with the Impreza we used to have.

Yep, mine I press and hold, the D/S unlocks, then a couple seconds later the rest of the doors unlock.

Would my 95 sedan also be equipped?

nope. And there's no way to get a keyless entry system in unless you swap in the door parts on the driver's door from a 96-99 Legacy.

any good sources for the keyless entry remote/fob other than ebay?
My '98 LGT came w/ keyless and alarm, but the battery was dead in the fob and corrosion has apparently eaten the circuit as w/ a new battery... it does nothing.
Will try and reprogram it, but think it's toasted.
Thanks - Jon

Hate to revive such an old topic, but I have a question after reading this one. I have a '95 L and had been wondering about how to get keyless entry to work on it, but I saw in an earlier post that that wasn't possible on the 95s...is that correct? I only ask because I figured that if I can unlock all the doors at the same time from either side (with the key), then it seems like the doors would all be capable of being unlocked with a remote too.
If it in fact isn't possible to just do an easy plug-n-play, would you please tell me what I need to get to make it work (and don't just tell me to visit an installer or get an alarm, please) Thanks.

DonMarcoPolo, there's already a thread that answers that question in this forum section. Here's the link: https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?t=1590
In short you need a driver's side lock actuator, since the power locks are activated manually via the lock lever/key.

Thanks...reading that right now. Have you done this already to yours, or did yours already have it?
