I've been in the market for a brake upgrade for my 98 lgt and had 3 choices: wrx front/h6 rear, wrx 4/2 pots and 05+ legacy gt front and rear brakes.
The wrx front/h6 rear is probably the cheapest out of all of them but I wanted something more.
The 4/2 pots are very expensive, 1k+ if your installing new pads/rotors/lines/adapter.
The 05 lgt brakes are massive and can outbrake the 4/2 pots for alot less money but here is the kicker, the stock rotor weighs 22 lbs. Solution= Racing Brake, they make a rotor for the 05 lgt that weighs 17 lbs (5 lbs lighter)

Overkill? For now, until I turbo it

Overkill?
"No use in going fast, if you can't stop"
No such thing as overkill, when you're improving safety first. Give us a heads up to overall performance.
IE. Brake fade (if any)
How much (your guess is good enough) reduction in stopping distance.
and anything else you might think we should know.
And yes, I am pro-stopping power

So how much was the Racing Brake rotor? How do they make the rotor lighter?

The caliper itself is also quite heavy... sometimes bigger brakes will result in more mass to haul down to a stop, so you may in fact have increased your stopping distance 60-0.

Agreed... I still have to drive it around more to give feedback.

From research from legacygt.com it seems they use a different material (metals) which are lighter but also as strong.

Here's a breakdown on price
05 LGT f&r calipers............................$170 shipped (ebay)
racing brake open slot front rotors........$268 shipped(from oakos auto from google)
rear premium blank rotors.....................$56 shipped (ebay: seller prime choice)
stoptech f&r brake pads......................$104 shipped (rockauto.com)
Stainless steel brake lines.....................$62 shipped (ebay)
valvoline dot 3&4 brake fluid...................$8 (autozone)
Total...............................................$668

As you can see, the racing brake rotors are the most expensive out of all of them. Payed more so it'll weigh less, stock rotors 22 lbs $100 vs racing brake 17 lbs $268. But I see it as an upgrade not only its 5 lbs lighter, its also a better rotor (vane and pretty bad ass open slot design). http://www.racingbrake.com/LEGACY_2_5_G ... 13-381.htm (http://www.racingbrake.com/LEGACY_2_5_GT_spec_B_FRONT_05_09_p/9013-381.htm)

Compare the price to a 4/2 pots, you can't beat it! The total price is about how much a 4/2 pot aluminum calipers going for. 05 LGT outbrakes (316mmx30mm vs 295mmx25.5mm fronts but use the same rear rotors 290mmx18mm) and the price is way cheaper than 4/2 pots. The only thing is you don't get the bling of a fixed caliper.

Here is a review from legacygt from xenonk (his is the older front rotor design, the new one is on the link above)

Very nice! Why did you paint them red? I would o went green or black. Does not go with wheel color.

Thanks. 3 reasons: previous brake setup was red, had extra red caliper paint and to paint it like the 4/2 pots lol

Ok as far as weight. Here is a comparison

98 LGT
front caliper.....11 lbs
front rotor.......14 lbs
rear caliper......5 lbs
rear rotor........10.5 lbs

05 LGT
front caliper.....12 lbs
front rotor.......17 lbs (racing brake)
rear caliper......5 lbs
rear rotor........12 lbs

The caliper is just a pound heavier than the stock for the front and same weight on the rear.
The fronts I gained 8 lbs (2lbs for the caliper and 6 on the rotors)
The rear I gained 3 lbs

Or go with this: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ghs&page=4 (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1573612&highlight=300zx+caliper+weighs&page=4)

And shave 7lbs from the caliper on top of the weight savings from the RB rotor, though you could easily offset the LGT brakes with some lighter and smaller diameter wheels. Mass from the brakes aren't just there as "dead weight".

Damm that would be a badass combo. It looks like the z32 calipers are about 6-7 lbs. I was actually looking around on where to buy the bracket but found nothing. I pm'd the guy from nasioc that suppose to sell them but I never got a reply. I could only find the rear bracket to work with the 2 pot. Where did you get your front caliper bracket to make the 300zx work?

BUMP...

This thread came up today on the SL-i facebook page. So, this is essentially plug-and-play for the front, and the rear is done the same way as the H6 conversion (remove the dust shields, then simply mount up the parts)? The rear caliper brackets bolt right up to the BD/BG/BK? Looks to me like the rear calipers are the same style I used in my H6 rear upgrade. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 54702.html (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2nd-gen-lgt-brake-upgrades-wrx-front-and-h6-rear-154702.html) I didn't love the rear calipers that I used (MY2000-2004 Legacy style) because the mounting notch for the hard end of the brake line did not align with the way the brake line needs to be routed:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/03/IMG_5590_Edit_01_Text-1.jpg

I read that using MY2004 WRX rear calipers with the H6 mounting brackets works better because the notch for the brake line is in the correct orientation.

My H6 rear rotors are solid, and fairly thin (maybe 10mm?). Looks like the MY2005 rear discs are vented? Is the MY2005 Legacy a wider rear caliper than the H6 rear caliper, in order fit the wider vented rotor?

Also, what is the minimum wheel size? Will this setup clear stock LGT 16" Snowflakes? Will it fit a spacesaver spare lol?

I don't think it will work with the wrx 1pot rear brake calipers using the 05LGT bracket. Like you said, the 05LGT rotors are vented while the wrx is not. Yes its wider, I believe it use the same rear rotor as 06-07 wrx 2pot brakes. I just got creative and just ran the brake lines and zip tied them (using lines for my car). I'll be adjusting my coilovers and will take pics of how i route the lines (it won't be pretty lol)

The rear you can use 16" (possibly 15) but for the fronts 17. I doubt it will fit the stock spacesaver but if you can find one from an 04sti it will or have AAA card

Here is how I routed my rear brake lines. Never had a problem with it. Wheels above was 18 but changed it to 17's awhile back and it looks better.
