So I am debating on getting a full whiteline bushing kit for the front and rear of my car.

Lateral Links
Trailing Arms
LCA Bushings

Or would it be better to switch over to STI Control arms and rear Trailing and Lateral Links?

My car walks all over the road. Tires are new as is my steering rack. Inner and outter tie rods are new as well.

Did you check the steering coupler too?

The what? Not sure where that is.

And the bushings I'd want to replace anyways. Just didn't know if it was worth doing it that way or switching over to Sti stuff.

Just googled itm. Looked fine from what I could tell. What can go bad with them?

OEM vs STi is minor.. Some say STi is more rigid...

Bushings will make a world of a difference.. OEM or Upgrade Aftermarkets..

If you want a tight feel swap the bushings.. if you don't want to pay labor for bushing removal / install, then buy adjustable trailing arms / lateral links. They are more expensive but come with upgraded bushings pressed in and you have the ability to adjust to accommodate any rear strut variation.

Adjustable ones from whiteline are very spendy

obx sells trailing arms with pillowball bushings on one end. cant remember which end but i have them on my car. pm me if you want picks. i'll even find the link where i bought them if you want.

and i got fully adjustable laterals from MASSIVE that are pillowball all around with one bushing on the rear outer end.

Are you replacing the bushings or is a shop?

Would I be able to do the bushings my self?

TiC sells a full kit for front and rear for $400. The bushings that is.

If you have a compressor, air hammer and a press then yes you can do it but its no afternoon job on jack stands.

I will have to see what my buddy has in his shop. If not I may know a guy who does.

Thanks

Have you checked on energy suspension bushings? It may be cheaper unless you prefer whitelines

Whoa, yeah I will go ahead and just pay a shop if my buddy doesn't have the tools for whiteline bushings.

That is way beyond what I want to pay for those.

Is that second link. Lat and Trailing arms?

Kansei
12-31-2011, 01:03 AM
the first link is for the trailing arms. those are only 100. but the second link is the laterals and end links. i'm really surprised about the price of those though...

I thought there was only one lateral link per side in the rear? There are 2? I am getting confused here.

Those endlinks wont work either.

This is the standard rear end on all subarus (even the multi-link setup 2000+ legacy use the same amount of bars)

This is the rear suspension setup on a legacy notice the "C" endlink and how it mounts to the lateral link.

If you choose the MASSIVE units then yes the end links will work since the later links have the corresponding mounting style to accommodate the new style endlinks.

Okay I see it. So we do have 2 Lateral links in the back. But they call one a control arm don't they?

chuckthefuk
12-31-2011, 03:42 AM
There are 4 links. 2 on each side.

Subaru OEM parts describe the links for each side as:
Lateral link assembly-front
Lateral link assembly-rear

Was it noticable? Trying to justify spending that much on them.

Having more adjustment in the rear would be nice.

But 500 in just the rear is spendy for me. I want to get some bushings on the front. The debate continues!

Kansei
12-31-2011, 03:22 PM
it was noticeably stiffer in the rear. a little more noise but hey thats what you get for eliminating just about every rear bushing. i will say one thing though. the design for the adjustments makes it hard to tighten them so tighten everything down before you tighten them to the chassis. otherwise they will rattle loose and change your rear geometry. i used some thread lock on them as well just for the safety of it. and if they rattle loose you'll hear it.

these are the whiteline versions and you have to buy front and rear seperately. alot more expensive...

front:

rear:

Yeah I will look into it. Debating on juts buying all the bushings for 400 or spending double that on something that may just do the same thing.

http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Suspension ... B000CN72YW (http://www.amazon.com/Energy-Suspension-19-18101R-Master-Subaru/dp/B000CN72YW)

This should fit your car. $140 for the set and you can remove and have it pressed out for maybe about 50-60 depending who you take it to. So about 200 you can have a stiffer suspension if you do the labor (taking it out and having someone press it out)

How do those bushings fare against whitelines?

Was just looking through old threads and noticed your swaybar links are kinda at an extreme angle. I had this same problem with my cusco control arms. i ended up flipping the rear arm around so the swaybar link sits inbetween the two arms. This brought it to almost vertical. NO biggie, just something i did i though i might bring to your attention.
