Gearbox compatibility - TY754XFAAB - TY757XFCAB?

Hi,

the TY754XFAAB gearbox in my '99 Legacy BH 2.5 is loud and whines a lot, so I'm looking for a replacement. I found a TY757XFCAB out of a 2006 2.5 Legacy at a reasonable price. Not yet sure if the donor car was a wagon with a dual range box (like mine is).

I know both are 5MT and according to non-US service manuals both model years should have the same gear ratios and the final ratio (3.700).

However, I couldn't find any reference to physical dimensions and component location, so I'm not quite sure it will fit straight into a BH...

Is there any 'database' where I could check if these two are compatible?

Anyone has some clue maybe?

I can only help you with some general info since your transmission is EU spec and not available in North America or Japan.

I know that wont help you but from general info i've gathered and summed up in this thread = viewtopic.php?f=70&t=22075 (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=22075)

Its safe to assume that all "TY75" 5MT's are interchangeable so that being said there is documented swaps all over the net that shows 5MT / 6MT swaps all the way up to 2007 from 2.5i / wrx / sti / 2.5xt etc..

I did a quick search on the transmission codes you posted and there is very little info showing.

Just out of curiosity - what else does a 6MT swap bring with it? And I mean for a daily driver?

I think in worst case scenario I'd need to get a rear diff with a matching ratio. In that case, I might look for a LSD one (my current one is a 3.700 and LSD diffs with 3.700 ratio seem very rare - if they exists at all).

1) 3.90 FD
2) 6th Gear for highway
3) DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Diff) [change AWD split on the fly]
4) "almost" indestructible with non-turbo powertrain.

3.70 is rare in North America until you hit 07+ I believe.

You have the ability to choose whichever transmission you want from Japanese options to North America. Most can be had for under $1000 and the rear diff's are common enough. 3.90 or 4.11 is the common 5MT final drives..
