05 wrx swap

A good friend of mine offered me an 05 wrx longblock, complete harness, and computer for my jdm bumper (worth 300), rs spoiler (worth 100), and 300 on top so 700 for the swap. Only thing with the engine is that it had a spun bearing. He said he felt compression in all 4 cylinders but I'm gonna see if he could do a compression test. I'm wondering if its a good deal or if I should just walk away. He has built quite a few cars so I know he knows his stuff but it is a good chunk of cash and I dont wanna buy something I'll have to dump a load of money on. I've asked about 7 people so far and each one tells me something different so I wanna know exactly what I would get into if I got the swap.

heads + harness + ecu = over $1000. Its a good deal anyway you slice it.

sell the block for at least $100 and find a EJ205/207/255/257 short block from your local subaru forum and all is crispy :-D

How about this? If your buddy has built cars before, have him help you with the engine rebuild and swap, and once it's all buttoned up, give him the body parts and a case of beer. :D

^^he lives roughly 2 and a half hours away and without having a second car I can't just drop it off. also he's underage lol

so I think I'm gonna pass on the engine just because I don't know exactly what I'll be getting into and nobody can agree on parts lol...I'll end up getting an ej20k with a trans for a good price from a company in new jersey (3 hour drive)

Problem with that ej20k is you won't be passing emissions with that combo. Now I don't have to worry about that where I live, but I still wouldn't do anything to my cars that would drastically limit the pool of people who can buy the car without needing to smog it.

Luckily I live in Schuylkill County aka coal country where the air itself wouldn't pass smog lol

they don't do smog here and if they ever get it there are quite a bit of places to get a lick and stick and I have no intention of selling the car at least for another 5-7 years if I ever do sell it...I have every intention of keeping it.
