Hey everyone, I'm from Massachusetts, USA and I just picked up a new to me red 97 legacy brighton wagon. I am a definite wagon fan, and now a subaru fan! I needed some reliable transportation and after doing some research, a legacy wagon it had to be. A good deal popped up on a wagon not far away that had been 1 owner, 138k miles, no accidents. I lucked out that it was a brighton I guess, as I really don't like anything fancy besides AC. Rusty spots in the rear wheel well, but otherwise a-ok! I plan on driving it for a long time. I used a Rug Doctor to clean out the previous tenants stains and whatnot and it did a really good job. Replaced license plate lights as they were out and I needed them in to pass inspection.

Now to do: Some rusty hatch struts, they still work, but are rusty, I might just try to repair them. I have to get new bulbs for the heater controls, the buttons themselves don't light up and I'm not used to what I'm pressing yet. The rear wiper was rusty and not working so I sanded and spray painted the wiper arm and just today took out the wiper motor and it turned out the pivot arm was rusted tight. I sanded it down and sprayed it with lithium grease and now it works like a champ! (I took pictures as I noticed there is no DIY on this if it's a common problem with such an easy and cheap fix.) I am also going to try sorting out that rusty piece of metal by the hatch release handle and take off the rear lights to clean underneath them as I noticed a lot of dirt has accumulated in there. Longer term (when it gets warmer!) is to sort out the super wobbly shifter and possible add a short shift solution and possible ignition upgrade then suspension/tires... you all know how it goes and what happens.

I've been cruising under the radar here for the last couple weeks and this looks like a great forum and community. I'm exciting to become a part of it!

Welcome to the forum. Car sounds like a fun time fixing up, there is no feeling like fixing your car and putting new things into it. I've had my car for 9 months and two grand later its the best thing in my life and I'm only in high school!
Enjoy the forum

Thanks! Yeah, I really enjoy working on cars, and it's nice to have a running one that I can now work on!

I did see that, really clever! It's just not my thing. Although if the rust comes back soon, it will be. Awesome! Thanks for the meet link. I noticed that there was a new england meet, I'll try and make it.

Creeeeeeepy. The wagon or the location? The wagon lived it's whole life in the town next next door, but I found it in new hampshire. If you recognize the area, well, I'm always game for a beer or margarita!
