Not sure since I don't have a BE. Normally that is a place when you can put you key to shift the car out of park if the battery is dead.

Yes I believe that's the secret hole to bypass that silly 'feature' of needing to press the brake before being able to shift. Normally I just jam a pen down in that hole.
