Once again back with another fantastic issue with my lovely Subaru.
Past couple days I have been having a weird metal shearing noise on my driver side (wheel bearing was replaced 8k ago with OEM). Rotor looks like someone took sandpaper to it.
My brake pedal goes soft and then comes back out of no where like ABS is kicking it. The pedal pulsates randomly when braking. Sometimes it will do it and sometimes it wont.
Both of these have happened within the past couple days. I hear a buzzing noise from under the hood when the ABS kicks in.
I am so broke from this car all the time. I can barely afford a place to live. Yet I keep having to dump hundreds of dollars into this car. And no...I cannot afford another car right now which is why I have been putting money into the car so I do have a way to work (48 mile round trip) so I do have a place to live.
F***
HELP!

temp fix.. unplug the connector on the abs pump.. this will disable the ABS system and throw a light. This will prevent any further random pulsation or activation.
From there you can take it slow and diagnose the ABS system once you have more time. Just adjust your driving style for the time being.

That pulsation is almost certainly coming from a damaged tone ring...

Bottom line is that if it is the tone ring, the only way to fix it is to press the bearing out/in of your hub to remove and replace the tone wheel OR just do like I did and replace the entire hub assembly with a used one from Specialized Parts Planet subaru in Sacramento for about $100 with a 3 year parts AND labor warranty.
That way, if your bearing ever goes out on that hub in the next 3 years, you get another hub assembly for free and they pay the shop of your choice $65 per hour to replace it.
I bet silverline has a TON of steering knuckle/ hub assemblies for you to choose from.

Hub and bearing have been replaced.
When hitting the brake the car veers in one direction. Rotor is chewed to hell as in gouges in it. Don't know how that can be related to the tone ring. Car is parked for awhile till I can afford to fix it. Driving the girlfriends car.
Going to take it all apart and look at it. I really think my pads are shot just on that one side. Due to a stuck caliper. So a full front end brake job is due.
It even makes a sheering noise when turning left. ANd only left. Once again not sure how its related to the tone ring.

I was thinking the same thing when I first read this.

look up 'seized caliper pin' on youtube. i found a DIY way to pull out the seized caliper pin with about $5 in parts from lowes/home depot. a couple different washers, an iron pipe coupling, a longer bolt. you basically put a piece of pipe over the caliper pin, and put a big washer over that (one that fits the caliper bolt, and also fits over the pipe). then you just tighten the bolt, and it will pull out the seized pin.
cleaned everything up, regreased it all, and it works fine now. if your pads have uneven wear, start here first.
i fixed it for about $10. not as good as new, but it will last for a while.

mine was doing the same thing, so I just pulled the abs fuse out! lol I guess I will take a look and see which tone ring is bad.
