Auto to manual swap: 04 Legacy

What would I need to do to swap over my BE to 5 speed??
Help would be very appreciated so I can get GTDrifter and xoSubaruLegacyxo off my back.

I couldn't tell you exactly, but I know my friend had a hell of a time swapping his CRX from auto to manual (that guy who had the 240sx at longs park... his brother).

I'd imagine you'd just need the tranny, maybe the driveshaft, definitely the pedal assembly, clutch assembly, and possibly some wiring stuff. Im not sure what all comes with the transmission if you just buy that as a whole.

But why 5 speed? Go balls deep! 6 speed!

Transmission
Flywheel
Clutch
Pressure Plate
Front Driveshaft section
Entire shifter assembly
Clutch and brake pedals, cables
Clutch master cylinder and reservoir (for hydraulic systems)
Transmission crossmember

I just did the swap on my 03 Baja, and did it on my 97 Legacy a few years ago. Before you do anything, get a hold of the FSM for your year. When I was researching the swap for the Baja, at first I was using the FSM for a different year of BE legacy before I found a 2003 Baja FSM. I don't remember what year I was looking at, but the ECU and dash/bulkhead harness were completely different between AT and MT. The swap in that year would require replacement of harnesses, different types of sensors, different exhaust, different ECU. Untill I realized that the plugs on my ECU were different, I was ready to call off the swap.
The way to tell is under the chart that give's the pin out for the ECU. There will be one for for AT and MT. Map them out on a piece of paper. If the only difference is the obvious things like to/from TCU and to/from Shift Indicator, then you're golden. On the one I was looking at, the wiring was different on the o2 sensors, engine sensors, HVAC controls, lighting controls... It was a mess.

As it turned out, for the 03 Baja, the electrical part of the swap was fairly easy. I have somewhat of a writeup here; http://www.scoobytruck.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1962

In addition to the list above, you may also need a rear diff to match the FD ratio.

I was just gonna create a post when I came across this one I have a 2000 Outback 2.5l and the
Transmision had a bad night tonight :-( so I'm forced to make the decision what to do with the
transmission... I would like to swap in a 5 speed thow I'll lose some potential buyers when I go to sell it one day but perhaps if can have it done I'll end up keepin it longer...there should be a sticky for. BE/BH Auto to Manual Trans Swap
