Transmission in steering fluid ok?

So i need a new rack and pinion, i've ordered the part already and its going to cost me around 250$..So when i went to the alignment shop today because my steering wheel was acting up (it would be hard to move it left to right & it sounded like water was dripping) so i took it to the alignment shop and he used transmission oil in my steering fluid system, is this normal? My steering wheel is working the way it should now, but im concerned that it might affect other part of my engine, I also think im leaking steering fluid, should i try to replace the container? The mechanic told me to just keep adding transmission fluid when ever the steering wheel starts to stiff up, but i dont know if thats the correct procedure... any suggestions??

Subaru uses a version of GM's Dexron ATF for the power steering fluid. This is completely normal.

Completely normal. Its thickness over traditional steering fluid actually seems to help make the system work smoother.

Thanks so much, now i feel a lot more at ease... should i replace the container where the steering fluid goes? Its leaking at the moment, I just dont want to keep putting transmission fluid in there and having it leak...
