I am looking to get winter tires for my stock 16 inch snowflakes. I have been looking high and low for which brand to get and what size to get as well. What do you guys think about 205/60/16's instead of the standard 205/55/16's??
The way i see it the 60's are $15 cheaper than the 55's.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Nic

switching to the 60's is not necessarily the greatest idea just because they are cheaper. they are overall a bigger tire, it about a 1/2 taller than the original 205/55/16. and the rolling diameter is about 2 inches larger. soo what this will do is throw ur speedo off about 2 mph at highway speeds. and it may or may not cause rubbing over larger bumps or when making sharper turns.. plus it can also mess with your abs (if your car has abs that is)..
hope this helps a little bit

I have 215/60/16's on my OB. No weird problems at all. It's just a stock (newer) Forester tire size. I like having a little more tire for banging against curbs and other nonsense that happens with my wagon.

I would think they would be just fine. My parent's outback is running 225/60/16's, and they don't rub.

I wasnt trying to say dont do it or its a bad idea or anything... just pointing out a few facts about the two different sizes. and the speedo will def be off about 2 mph's.. not that it really makes a huge difference.. and said it may or may not rub... that i didnt know for sure..i wasnt sure if the outback has more ground clearance or larger wheel wells or if its the same as the legacy sedan.

I think they would fit good. Every spedo is off on every car. That doesnot bother me one bit. I'm thinking for the money I'm saving in can afford to run them a little bigger.

taller is better in snow, also skinnier is better in snow. as long as they dont rub you should get the taller ones.

if you have 15" rims then the best size would be 205/60R15.. that would be the closest to the size of the 205/55R16. overall diameter, circumference and it gives a little more cushion when going over bumps for a smoother ride. plus you were saying u wanted to save some money and they are cheaper than the 16's.. what kind of snow tires are you looking to run?

Will 15" fit over your brakes?
Edit, from what I am seeing, they won't. Your front brakes are a 276mm rotor and your rear is 290mm I believe.

Edit #2. I'm wrong. Should be fine.

Chad don't make fun of my pink domo. I don't know what color to paint the steelies. I know I'm painting my snowflakes white.

They'll fit fine. I've been using 205/60/16 blizzaks for the past season and a half. My car's lowered about 1/2 inch from the JDM springs and wider track/lower offset wheels with no issues. On mildly lowered, otherwise stock BE that tire size will work with 16" tires. It doesn't answer the OP's question but for anyone in the future that thinks about it.
