Is there any way to open a hatch from the inside?

You'll have to pull the interior trim off.

Yep, its not hard though. Just grab the top on both sides of the rear panel (like Huffer said) with your hands and pull...

As soon as you can get the top lose, you should see a small bar going to the lock lever. Side it one way or the other. I actually did this today and the J/Y...

Awesome, thanks! I need to do this for a few wagons in my yard, so interior won't be a problem.

Did this for a fellow Subie owner whose hatch release had broken, it was real easy.

easier going from the bottom, there are 6 of those two-piece clips, just pull them out lift back the trim, reach down and open the latch....be careful not to pinch your fingers. i could open mine in my sleep......something in the locking mechanism on mine is out of alignment so once its locked the only way to open it and unlock it is from the inside, which is fun when you have a full load of stuff, lol
