I plan on replacing my muffler with a forza one I have but I wont be getting that done for a few more weeks and I hate my muffler I have right now so much Id love to cut it off but Id like to know who has gone with out a muffler and how loud is it?

I have stock cats headers but my piping is 2.5.

I'm running an Apex-i Noir STi catback with a ceramic Vibrant HFC and stock headers.

This thing is loud and I'm looking forward to getting my Bosal SPT muffler installed tomorrow to quiet it down.

Yeah, it's cool, and it sounds sweet sometimes, but the droning kills the buzz and it's failed visual inspection because of the muffler.

So the droning is loud as hell? and I'm almost stock on mine except for the piping.

It's reasonable at idle, relatively quiet when rolling on a downhill slope, and almost brutally loud when you put a load on it.

Some people like that and can get away with it, but at 60MPH on cruise it's not all that comfy. A bit better at 80MPH due to the frequency.

Just get a reasonably priced Magnaflow or Dynomax for under $100 and have someone weld it in with a tip that at least goes to the edge of the bumper.

Also, i removed the Bosal SPT muffler from my 98 L EJ22E and it's loud at idle, very loud under load...in the driveway. Sounds good though with the MS3 UEL headers and stock cat/midpipe.

Ight i may do this but Don't know yet, might just deal with it a bit longer.

Deal with it. Muffler-less will cause you to hate your car.

I ran my SS mufflerless for 3-4 months and it wasn't bad at all, I just upgraded to 3" TBE instead. That being said, I don't think it would go very well in an NA car, although I ran my GT with UELs, a 14" glass pack, and a 16" glass pack no cats with 2.5" piping and it I loved how it said...

Why don't you just unbolt it at the axle back and run it like that for a few days and see what you think? I have friends that have been running like that for years

Just wondering if you noticed you posted in the forced induction section. Anyways I ran just a downpipe for a bit while I made my exhaust fit, it was loud but good, I would not recommend for n/a though.

This summer I ran mine for a week or two without a muffler while mine was being worked on and the noise was fine. I have heard that when it is cold it isn't good to run it without a muffler because it will cool down too fast. Please correct me if I am wrong because I will have my car turbo'd in a few weeks and I can't quite afford an exhaust yet but I want to drive my car.

^^ a muffler is just that. It muffles/changes your exhaust tone. You want loud, run the car without headers.

Seriously though, if you have a functional exhaust system use it and don't go without a muffler. You, and people around you will hate it.

Yeah, I ran with an open downpipe (catless), and it was horrendously loud. Mufflers are good things.

Moved to the correct forum.

In a sedan, it's probably less of a problem to go muffler-less. It's still going to be loud when you get on it. As someone who had a very loud muffler for several years- it gets old, quick.

No muffler on the wagon and the neighbors love me :-)
