View Full Version : How do you tell people about SLi?!

So I wanna know, how many of you out there are trying to get the word out?! no joke, I have had about 10 people ask me about it and even sent a few to the site... To me, this has been by far the best car forum I have ever been on! I have got the most help getting parts, or fixing problems, and selling stuff has even been great!

So a big thank you to all my fellow SLi Subaru nuts out there! :smt023

I have a decal on my BH and my tool box in the shop (and one waiting to go on the BD with a special project I'm working on)... What about you guys? Where do you slap those stickers?

I have mine right on the bottom of my windshield. People often mistake it for the STI logo at first glance though :(

And when I find someone with a Legacy, and I don't have my car around, it's all about word of mouth.

no one else?! Come on guys! I know you all have something!

I tell almost every legacy owner I talk to. Most of them in my area aren't enthusiasts so it's usually a bust.

Most of the time I tell people on other forums about us. I try to tell people I meet in person about the forum, but like GTDrifter said they aren't into modifying cars! lol

This. We really need cards we can print out or "buy" like dirty impreza so we can just drop them under the wipers or in cracked windows.

We used to have some. Got 2 of them when I ordered the old style decals in 2007ish. Still have one in my wallet and gave the other one out.

I have a stack. Too bad all the enthusiasts around here are douchebags with riced out WRX/STis.

I'll have more cards made up sometime.

I've tried telling a few people, but a couple people noticed the site is really only international as long as you know English pretty well....
Others just didn't care.

I think the most effective method would be by having the site advertised in your sig line in another car forum. But this is the only forum I'm active in...

chuckthefuk

very true.... but the ones that care will try to type in english.. or at least a google translate..

Reason

I thought about putting a non english speaking forum, but what's the point if only a few knows what is going on? Like Chuck said the few that care, find a way to communicate. We are international, we have people from all other countries. And a lot of our members can speak a second language, but most of us speak english and it's easier for most.

Don't they have an option to translate the page?

chuckthefuk
02-13-2012, 11:06 PM
if they are using chrome then yes.
if they are using firefox then they need a plugin.
if they are using internet exploiter.. hahahahaah no chance.

Google's translator sucks though. Altavista is marginally better....

You know, the thing about THIS forum is that not everyone here does modifying, it is the majority, but not all. I have seen some clean looking stock rides in the member rides threads.

I'll have more cards made up sometime.
I like this idea! I sold some wheels to a couple different guy last month and told both to check us out, but have never heard from them. The guy I got my 05 GT wheels from had never heard of SLi but was on Legacygt. It's amazing who never hears about us.

I agree... I'm on a few other forums and most of the time people will ask where I have been and I say here... haha

You know whats funny, I'm not on a ton of different forums, but the others I'm on just dont feel like home. Most people might think it comical, but even with me being on 3 different Nissan forums, the most detailed thread on my Pulsar is on here and thats because I like the people here more. I had my fill of the Nissan people when I was hard core into S13's and got sick of the Toyota people (at the time) complaining that they dont make anything for our cars (82-85 Celicas). People here dont complain for the most part, they improvise! :smt023

Anyway, I love it here and the people! I got my car because I like the car to start with, it was a little different. Now, I keep my car because I now know I'm not the only one that loves these cars and want more to see the worth of them and the other owners I have made friends with all around the world!

Dead91silvia you are one of the few that takes the extra effort to make this forum better and I'm glad you are a part of SLi. Unfortunately not all of us have that pride. Some people just take...

Some people just take...

True, but you'll have that everywhere. I think we have an extremely high rate of people who come here for one question and end up becoming contributing members. The glass is definitely half full.

I'm being a little more specific, I know who they all are. Anyone that buys SLi merchandise, and or helps out members on the regular is an asset to SLi. But there's people who don't do either and ask questions. I know who helps and who doesn't trust me.

Someone helped me when I was a newbie, just trying to do the same.

That's what it's all about. You take knowledge and you give it back. It's a cycle that makes the forum grow. If "you" claim you have knowledge and keep it to yourself or just pm one person "you" are useless to the forum.

Cards would be cool to have. And I'm stealing the idea of posting the site html in my signature on other Subaru sites.

Also agree with the "SLi" looking like STi at first glance. All the doucebag kids riding around in their daddy's STi used to give me troubles for that.

But its whatever. Like Reason said, I've given, I've taken. I've contributed. And I'm glad to be a part of such a respectful community.

Same here! I was welcomed by a lot of respected members, and I would give anything I could to keep this forum alive. You just don't see this much compassion and knowledge from any other Subaru forum out there!

I remember when I got on here the first time, I didnt know much of anything about the JDM side of Subaru, other then the motors. Now with the help of a handful of members, I now know just about everything I have ever wanted to know.

Most members that are regular's have learned, contributed, improvised, or even learned how to work on their own car having helped a few of you. I want more good people to find this place because I see it was a wealth of knowledge and good friends. Some people just dont do the internet and thats fine, but even they use the DIY section we have and I have yet to see another site that has this much "how to" that is this detailed! I have used a few myself. I might be a mechanic and bodyman by trade, but I learn everyday! I cant tell you how much I read up on all the turbo swaps and 5 speed conversions trying to get ready to do the same thing to my own car!

Every time I'm doing something to my own car, I'm now trying to think in DIY mind set, knowing not everyone can figure out up without help. If I have the time, I try to do it with customer cars I work on but that doesnt happen much... haha

One thing I do whenever I'm at my dealership is talk to people getting their cars worked on waiting in line for parts let them know. So far I haven't noticed any of them signing up but may be lurking and reading up on info and such. But just like Mark said most Subie guys around here that are enthusiasts are into wrx/Sti's.
